Buvachi Misal Lonavala

Buvachi Misal

Buvachi Misal is one of the most famous Misal places in Maharashtra.

Whether one is travelling to Lonavala by train or road, Buvachi Misal has been an essential stop for every traveler since the last 35 years. Not just tourists, but you will see many celebrities frequently visit this restaurant just for a taste of their Misal.

Background

It is a family-owned restaurant and right now, their third generation is handling the management of the restaurant. I think this gives a very homey feeling to this place.

Buvachi Misal

Ambience

There is a self-service counter and outdoor seating. The area around the restaurant is actually very quiet and pretty. Hot and spicy misal in the lovely Lonavala weather is just incredible.

Misal

Misal starts from Rs. 70 and you can choose from a variety of options like cheese or paneer misal.

You can also decide the spice level of your misal. Misal has a red masala tempering over the curry, the red tempering is the spiciest. If you mix it a little, it becomes medium spicy and if you mix it completely with the curry, you have got the least spicy version.

Other than that it has sprouts and mashed potatoes in it and a lot of Sev. It is served with Pav.

Click here for a sneak peek inside the Kitchen of Buvachi Misal.

How to get there

By road- Just 500m from Old Mumbai Pune Highway or NH48

2 hour drive from Pune

2 to 3 hour drive from Mumbai

By train- Get down at Lonavala station and take a rickshaw from there. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes and would cost you between Rs.100-200.

It might get tough to get a rickshaw right outside Buvachi Misal on your return journey, but you can just walk up to the highway in 5 minutes and get one there.

Must try here

I would absolutely recommend their simple misal which has been an iconic taste since the last 35 years, and kanda bhaji which is always fresh and burning hot!

This place is packed on weekends so you might need to wait for your turn.

If you ever visit Lonavala, this would be an amazing way to start your trip.

Bandra Street Food
All the Bandra Street Food places you need to try!

When in Bandra, street food is something you can definitely indulge in. And so many of these Bandra street food places have been around since decades. So in this video I’m giving you a tour of the best places to eat street food, when in Bandra.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Jay Sandwich

Bandra Street Food

This is so popular among all the college crowd from Nationals and MMK and also among people who have been living in this area for ages. The sandwich here is perfection – the chutney is simply delicious. They do have a lot of varieties but if its your first time I would recommend trying the humble veg toast – this is the typical Mumbai style sandwich.

National Juice Center

After the sandwich a ritual that I follow is indulging in sugarcane juice from National Juice Center. This is a rather inexpensive way of refreshing yourself and honestly feels great in any weather.

Quality Frankie

This is another old and famous Bandra street food place. And its actually a shop that sells a lot of farsan and snacks but also has a frankie section. They have both veg and non veg and I particularly like their Veg Frankie which has a spiced potato and onion stuffing.

Yummies

Bandra Street Food

One of my favorite places for Desi Chinese is Yummies near Rizvi College, Carter Road. They sell a lot of other snacks but their Chinese is a total win. Especially the schezwan sauce that they serve is one of the best I’ve ever had. You will keep asking for extra!

Lassi Te Parrontthe

Bandra Street Food

Best parathas in Mumbai! This place serves delicious Parathas and they are made with good ingredients, including Mustard oil and ghee. And they have so many combinations. I love the aloo paratha and the aloo methi as well. Don’t miss the Kulhad dahi that comes along with the paratha.

Elco

The most expensive pani puri you can have! There are mixed opinions about this place but I think you can try it. The pani puri is pretty good and it is up on the charts for hygiene.

Paagal Paan Bhandar

End your Bandra Street food trail with Paagal Paan. I love the meetha paan from here.

Bedekar Misal

If you love a tikhat misal, then Bedekar is the place. A simple place serving deliciously hot and spicy misal. Do enjoy with some slice bread or pav.

Appa

Pune Street food

Appa khichadi is famous. This is a sabudana khichdi which is a staple Maharashtrian breakfast dish and I love the way they do it here at Appa. They serve it with a cucumber raita of sorts which is delicious. Along with that, you should also try their poha.

Sujata Mastani

Pune Street food

Ice-cream and milkshake together – thats what Mastani is all about. I tried their Mango flavor and it was yum.

Budhani Brothers

Hit them up for the most fresh wafers in town. If you love potato chips, farsan and other kind of wafers then head here. It is an old and famous wafer shop in Pune.

Chitale Bandhu

You can’t go to Pune and not try Bhakarwadis from Chitale Bandhu. These bhakarwadis are pretty different than the ones we get here in Mumbai, and in my opinion way more tasty too.

Joshi Wadevale

Pune Street food

Another place for vadas and bhajjis in Pune. Do try their aloo and kanda bhajji while its still piping hot.

Kalyan Bhel

Craving chaat in Pune? Head to Kalyan bhel and enjoy their signature tasty bhel. Love their chutneys.

Punjab Sweet House, Bandra – Best Chaat in Mumbai

Punjab Sweet House
Punjab Sweet House is a famous chaat and mithai shop in Bandra.

Run by a Punjabi family, Punjab Sweet House is a heaven for anyone who loves traditional Indian mithai,, farsan and of course chaat. Check out my video from there.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

I absolutely love chaat. And Punjab Sweet House is easily one of my favorite places to eat chaat in Mumbai. They are located right before Pali Market in Bandra and are pretty well known in the area. So definitely include them in your next visit to Bandra.

Two dishes that I recommend trying at Punjab Sweet House are their Pani Puri and Dahi Puri. They do a pretty good job with both. Also don’t miss their Dahi Wada. Its topped with a delectable mix of spices that give it so much flavor.

Moving on from chaat, Punjab Sweet House also serve a wide array of mithais. If you have seen the video linked above, you’ll understand the level of variety they offer during festive seasons. Be it any festival, they offer specials that appeal to everyone. Whether its pedas, barfis or even specific sweets like Bengali Sandesh, they have pretty much everything. And I also find their fare to be mostly fresh. So next time you want to order some sweet treats during a festive time or just to indulge, make sure you get some from Punjab Sweet House. Actually I suggest in heading over there, so that you can even enjoy some fresh hot Jalebis. Yes they do serve Jalebis.

Apart from all this, they also have farsan and snacks like dhokla, idli, samosas etc. These are fast selling snacks and they keep getting multiple lots daily. Good to go as an alternate flavour amidst all that mithai.

Love home made chaat? Then check this recipe for home made Bhelpuri.

Enjoy a glass of fresh juice at these places in Mumbai

Winter or summer, a glass of fresh juice is always welcome in Mumbai.

So in this video I compiled some of my regular spots for grabbing some fresh juice in the city. Watch now!

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Haji Ali Juice Center

While they are known for their juices, there is definitely a lot more that you can try here. It’s quite a popular late night hangout where you can grab a nice grilled sandwich, some fresh fruit and cream and lots more. But I would definitely recommend trying their fresh watermelon juice – its basic but perfect!

Bachelorr’s

I remember this from my college days. The place that made me fall in love with fresh strawberries and cream. I do feel that they have become a bit expensive now but I still like the place for all the nostalgia. You could try their juices, ice creams, shakes and even snacks.

Sukh Sagar

Sukh sagar juice is almost like a must do in South Mumbai. They serve up some crazy combinations and I recommend trying out their Fruit Cocktails – its got black grapes, pineapple, apple and pomegranate. It is filling so you could skip a meal! Also don’t forget to walk down towards their fast food restaurant just a couple seconds ahead of the juice shop and try their idli.

Amar Juice Center

This place is known for it’s pav bhaji and nothing like a good Orange and Sweetlime juice to tone down that spicy after taste. It’s open all day but more of a late night hangout. If you come here on weekends then you will definitely be waiting for a long time before you can grab a bite.

Sahu Gupta Sugarcane Juice

Located in Colaba, right next to Pizza Express this is the best Sugarcane juice ever! You have to have a glass to know what I mean. Personally I find sugarcane juice really refreshing and is an absolutely value for money.

JOOST Juice Bar

If you want a place which is high on hygiene then try any outlet of JOOST juice bars. They serve up some healthy mixes and even regular fruit juices. Most of them are squeezed right in front of you and you can be rest assured of their quality.

Here are a few more places that you should visit when in Mumbai

Anand Dosa Vile Parle – Jini Dosa, Pizza Dosa and lots more!

anand dosa
Anand Dosa in Vile Parle, opposite Mithibai college is almost always packed.

Whether it’s among college crowd, ex students or any one working in the area, Anand Dosa in Vile Parle is famous and how! Watch this video from my visit to Anand Dosa.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Here are a few must try items at Anand Dosa.

anand dosa

1) Jini Dosa

anand dosa

I don’t know if it’s true, but a lot of people say that Jini dosa was first available at Anand Dosa! Also the name Jini – something one can never forget. Jini dosa is a must try item here. It’s a medley of flavors and textures – vegetables, sauces and butter.

2) Pizza Dosa

anand dosa

Tangy sauce, capsicum and onion, and lots of cheese – all of these in a Pizza dosa. And it is served like a pizza too! Really cute mini triangles. Definitely worth a try.

3) Mysore Masala Dosa

My absolute favorite – the Mysore Masala Dosa here is really yum. Onion, tomato and capsicum in a slightly spicy red chutney and some Pav Bhaji masala. Definitely try this here.

4) Vada Pav

Their Butter Vada Pav is really tasty. They in fact serve some interesting types of Vada Pav, including Schezwan Vada Pav.

5) Kala Khatta Soda

Instead of indulging in a regular cola, try their Kala Khatta soda. It is packed with flavor and also lots of jeera.

Anand dosa is almost always crowded so be prepared to wait in a queue for your order. And their dosa size is pretty huge – they are good enough for sharing among two people. It’s best to go here in a group as then you can try multiple different items.

Here are some more must visit Mumbai Street Food places.

Girgaon Food – What to eat in Girgaon Chowpatty and more

Girgaon Chowpatty 2
Girgaon Chowpatty is a famous hangout in Mumbai. But did you know that you get really amazing food in the by-lanes of Girgaon!

I have made 2 videos sharing all the food one must eat in Girgaon Chowpatty and in other parts of Girgaon. Watch them!

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Girgaon Chowpatty

At chowpatty, I recommend trying the Gola, Pav Bhaji, Pani Puri and Chowmein. You can get to know the exact stalls from the video above.

Manohar Pav Bhaji

Girgaon Chowpatty 2

This one didn’t appear in the video for Girgaon food, however it is a very famous place for pav bhaji in Mumbai. Visit Manohar pav bhaji to enjoy their tasty bhaji which is made in either butter or oil, as per your preference. I recommend the one made in butter because it definitely tastes better.

Dabeli Wala

Girgaon Chowpatty 2

This Dabeli wala sits opposite Sicka Nagar society and is so well known in the area. In fact his Dabeli sells like hot cakes and if you don’t go on time then you might not find any! I recommend trying the butter Dabeli here as it’s one of the best one you can find in Mumbai.

Borkar Vada Pav

Girgaon Chowpatty 2

This is located in the Navakal newspaper lane and you can find him every evening, selling really delicious and hot vada pav. The vada pav here has a really tasty filling – pretty different than the regular yellow batata vada filling. Definitely worth a try when you are in the area.

Sardar Pav Bhaji | Mumbai Street Food

Sardar Pav Bhaji is Mumbai’s oldest pav bhaji.

Afternoon, evening or night, Sardar Pav Bhaji is always packed. Watch this video to find out why.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Sardar Pav Bhaji is around since 1966 and that’s a legacy of overs 50 years. They started as a small food place serving a nutritious meal of mixed vegetables to the nearby mill workers. In those days, there wasn’t too much street food in Mumbai and also very limited options for affordable meals. So Sardar Pav Bhaji provided the much needed ammunition in terms of a filling meal to all the workers who would toil for hours in the sun. The sheer tenure of its operation has made Sardar Pav Bhaji a must visit name in Mumbai.

Another peculiar quality of Sardar Pav Bhaji is the sheer amount of butter they add in the bhaji. A whole chunk of Amul butter in a bhaji can sometimes feel a bit much, but that’s what makes Sardar Pav Bhaji so famous.

Since this place is always crowded, you will have to wait up in queue to get a seat. So in the meantime I recommend watching how this bhaji is made. Lots of vegetables, tasty spices and butter. They don’t add any color or tomato puree. So this bhaji doesn’t look too red but in fact as a more of a brownish color.

One plate of this pav bhaji cost approximately Rs.145 and you get a good portion of bhaji along with big buttered toasted pavs.

Sardar Pav Bhaji definitely needs to be in your list for famous Mumbai street food places. If you have not tried it out then do so. I personally do like their bhaji.

I was born and brought up in Mumbai and here are my most favorite Mumbai Street Food picks.

Watch videos of Mumbai Street Food.

Mumbai Street Food

This is in Churchgate close to H.R. & K.C. college and has a following of its own. Apart from the classic toast sandwich, they even make the weirdest Pizza and Panini.

Yummies

Mumbai Street Food

This place is located next to Rizvi College in Carter Road. And they are known for their Indianized Chinese food. Their schezwan sauce is so different and delicious.
