Kayani Bakery

“Going to Pune? Please get cake. And Shrewsbury biscuits!” How often do our friends and family say that when they hear we’re going to Pune 🙂 Kayani Bakery is the place for both. Their cakes and biscuits are delicious but go early and be prepared to wait in a queue. This is one of the best bakeries in Pune and I recommend grabbing as much cake as you can from here!

Vohuman Cafe

This place serves the best cheese omlette, ever! Their cheese omlette is so cheesy, you need to eat it to believe it! This place again gets super packed for breakfast and you’ll find the signature cheese omlette on every table. A must visit old Irani bakery in Pune.

German Bakery

Bakeries in Pune

German Bakery is another cute place and is a popular hangout. I recommend checking out their dessert counter for some really yummy sweets. They also serve burgers, pizza and lot other items. What I like about German Bakery is their fuss free chilled out vibe.

Marzorin

If you love chutney sandwiches (who doesn’t!) then Marzorin serves the best ones! You have to try them here to believe how yum they are. Apart from sandwiches they have a lot other snacky items as well as more filling dishes.

The Koffee Works, Chembur

The Koffee Works
The Koffee Works is easily one of the cutest cafes I’ve seen.

The newest outlet of The Koffee Works is in Chembur and they do have some new additions to their menu. Their initial outlet is in Vashi.

On my last visit to The Koffee Works, I ended up tried a lot more than just coffee.

The Koffee Works

Here’s a video and tour from my last visit to The Koffee Works

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Spicy Paneer Sandwich

The Koffee Works

A very homestyle toast stuffed with a delicious and of course, spicy paneer filling. Freshly toasted, this makes for a perfect savoury accompaniment with chai or coffee.

Choco Vivo

The Koffee Works

If like me you love your dessert, then order for this Chocolate Vivo pastry. I personally prefer a slightly warmed up version of this, so I ask them to heat it up. It’s such a perfect, creamy-moussey-gooey pastry.

Irish Coffee

The Koffee Works

This is beautifully done. The coffee is the perfect amount of sweet and very generously topped with whipped cream.

Caffe Latte

The Koffee Works

A very indulgent cup of coffee – if you love a good creamy cup then do order this. Their coffee is extremely flavorful and is in fact procured in tea estates which are actually owned by The Koffee Works.

Definitely check out their chocolate box – very interesting handmade chocolates.

The Koffee Works

Apart from good coffee, you can totally relax and chill in this really cozy place. It’s quite a pretty looking cafe! Their couches and tall stool seating set up is indeed very inviting.

The Koffee Works

The Koffee Works

The Koffee Works

So if you’re in Chembur or even Vashi for that matte, do visit The Koffee Works and indulge in some good coffee. Cute cafes make for great experiences and this one is no exception.

I hope this review was helpful. Do stay tuned for more posts.

Sunday Brunch at The JW SAHAR Mumbai

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch
I’ve been to JW Sahar on multiple occasions; but this time was special as I was visiting them for their Sunday Brunch.

JW Sahar is known to have one of the best (and also the priciest) Sunday Brunches in the city. It starts at Rs.2700+ and the various pricing options include mocktails, alcohol and champagne respectively.

To give you a glimpse of the whole brunch buffet, I have this video. Do watch it and subscribe to my Youtube channel for more video content.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Out of all the delicious food at the brunch, here are a few things that I tried and loved.

Chaat

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

The brunch has an entire section dedicated to chaat and you will find so many different things – Palak Patta Chaat, Samosa, Dabeli, Ragda Pattice, Pani Puri, Dahi Papdi and lots more. If you love chaat then definitely indulge!

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Pasta

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Pick and choose your sauce and veggies or ask a special recommendation from the Chef – the Pasta at JW Sahar doesn’t disappoint. Since this brunch happened to be a Thanksgiving themed one, I got to try their Pumpkin Ravioli. The feel of butter in this was just out of this world. I also indulged in the classic Arrabiata and it was the perfect tangy flavor.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Tex Mex

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

I love my tex mex so I indulged in some nachos and also some Quesadilla.

Indian Main Course

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

The one thing that stood out for me in the main course was their Dal Makhani. This was the first time I actually tried it and boy was it good! Creamy, flavorful and very comforting. I also tried the Chhole, Biryani and the Papad variety.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

If you saw the video, then you’d know that the brunch is massive. Apart from the food mentioned above, you also find a whole section dedicated to Cheese, greens and fresh salad, sushi and Japanese cuisine, Thai food, cold-cuts, sea food and lots more.

But the section that completely stole my heart was the Dessert.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

You can see the huge variety in this section right from the time you enter JW Cafe. And it’s honestly so beautifully arranged and presented that a part of you would definitely want to pick something up right away. Liqueur filled chocolate bars, cakes, pastries, Indian mithai variety – you will find all of this here! It’s such a massive spread. And it’s not just the quantity of dessert; it’s also the presentation. I mean I’ve seen some of the prettiest looking cupcakes here.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Even the Waffle and Pancake station is such a hit. They are undoubtedly one of the best waffles you will find in the city. And you choose an array of toppings – sauces, fruits, sprinkles, brownies, fruit syrups and what not. Enjoy these plain or with some ice cream to finish off a super lavish meal.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

So that was it from my visit to the JW Sahar Sunday Brunch. Definitely visit and share your experience with me. And do keep extra room for dessert!

Chaayos Versova

Chaayos Versova Palak Patta Chaat
I headed to Chaayos Versova one morning to check out the place and try out some of their Summer menu. And this post is going to be about my experience there.

Chaayos Versova is the brands’ 36th outlet, across Delhi and Mumbai. And this one has a really casual, relaxed vibe.

Wooden tables, soft music and an underlying chill vibe is how I like to describe the ambience. And the staff is super courteous and responsive too.

Chaayos Versova Black Chana Chaat

Let’s move to all the amazing food and chai I had at Chaayos Versova!

Palak Patta Crispies

Chaayos Versova Palak Chaat

Palak pakoda chaat. The pakodas are super crunchy and are topped with imli and gud (jaggery) chutney and loads of sev. The jalapeno on this gives them a slight twist. A tad bit spicy for me, I still loved these.

Kala Chana Chaat

Chaayos Versova Kala Chana Chaat

Proper hone style Black Chana with onion, tomato and loads of lime. And tossed with some Indian spices. This again is on the spicy side, but you can ask them to tone down the spices just like I did.

Bun Maska

Chaayos Versova

You have gotta eat this at any Chaayos! It’s a burger bun with such a generous amount of butter and warmed to perfection.

Golden Green

Chaayos Versova Gods Green

This honey green tea is all kinds of soothing.

Kesar Kulhad Chai

Chaayos Versova Kulhad Chai

Kesar has it’s own distinct flavor and it can feel very relaxing in a hot cup. This tea though is more on the sweeter side.

Paani kum, Adrak-Tulsi-Elaichi Chai

Chaayos Versova Adrak Chai

A tad bit milky for my liking, however the flavor from ginger and cardamom is totally on point.

Thandi Chai

They have now introduced chai lattes which is essentially cold tea with milk. And the one I tried was with the Sounf (Fennel) flavor. I’m not the biggest fan of having tea in this form, but the flavor of saunf in this one was amazing.

I definitely recommend trying out the new Chaayos Versova. Or you can pick from any of the outlets across the city.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Delicious Frozen Beverages in Bandra

Cool Story Bandra Jeera Lemonade

I discovered Cool Story when I visited Mexican Express! They share the same store.

Cool Story serves fresh beverages – ranging from smoothies, tea, lattes and most of them are frozen. I was quite intrigued by their offerings and decided to try some of their frozen drinks.

I ordered 2 drinks – the Berry Happy Together Frocktail and the Desi Lemonade with a Jeera twist.

Let me first tell you about Berry Happy Together. They aren’t kidding when they say frozen beverages – it is really that. So be prepared for way too much ice! But, their flavor, freshness of the ingredients and combinations are totally worth it. Berry Happy Together was a mix of berries – strawberry, blueberries, raspberries along with lemonade and some basil. I love a good berry drink and this one was pretty awesome too! Mixed berries have a nice tarty flavour and combine that with the sweet and sour nature of lemonade, you get this amazing taste. Of course, all of this is frozen so the the drink feels extremely refreshing, especially in this weather.

Cool Story Bandra Berry Happy Together

Next I tried their Lemonade with some Jeera. Just think of a nice desi nimbu paani – which is sweet and salted, and has some masalas and jeera powder. This is just that – only frozen. I absolutely loved it.

When you visit their outlet, don’t miss their little vertical herb garden right outside the door. They grow their own herbs, like basil and a lot more. And their ingredients definitely feel super fresh.

Highly recommend trying out this place. Loads of variety – you will definitely find something interesting. And also, it’s a perfect stop for that break in between shopping in Bandra!

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Starbucks Teavana – Teas and more

Starbucks Teavana
Starbucks Teavana just came to Mumbai and I was fortunate enough to attend their launch. I have fond memories with Starbucks, whether it was while travelling to other countries or even some really good conversations at their outlets in Mumbai. And because I’m more of a tea person, I did get super excited about their Teavana range.

Starbucks Teavana

Starbucks Teavana

If you’ve been to the Starbucks at Fort, Mumbai you know the vibe there. It’s one of my favorite outlets in the city and that’s where the Starbucks Teavana launch gig was.

Starbucks Teavana

As part of the Starbucks Teavana range, they have a good mix of hot and cold beverages. I tried the Indian Spice Majesty and I must say it was really good. Infused with the flavor of Indian spices like cinnamon, star anise, cardamom and clove, the tea was really rich in flavor. And while this can be had with milk, I did quite enjoy it without any milk or sugar.

Starbucks Teavana

Starbucks Teavana

And the Starbucks Teavana Indian Spice Majesty was served with 3 varieties of tea cakes. One was Date and Walnut which was extremely soft and topped with a generous amount of walnuts. Then there was the Matcha and Vanilla Fusion Cake and this was a regular vanilla cake along with that strong matcha flavor. And lastly was the Ginger Cake which I absolutely loved.

Starbucks Teavana

As part of their cooler beverages, Starbucks Teavana range has 3 variants. One is their Hibiscus tea along with some Pomegranate pearls. I have loved their hibiscus tea in the past and so this one I did enjoy a lot. They also have a Black Tea with grapefruit and honey flavor. And an iced Matcha and Espresso fusion – it kind of feels like tea and coffee at the same time. Definitely one I recommend trying.

Starbucks Teavana

Starbucks Teavana

Starbucks Teavana

That was all the new stuff from the Starbucks Teavana range. Do try it out.

Garde Manger Cafe – Healthy and Delicious!

Garde Manger Cafe
Garde Manger Cafe is a newly opened, cute and cozy cafe serving healthy yet delicious food. They have a pretty interesting menu which includes a whole lot of interesting dishes that are kind of altered with healthy ingredients. And the cozy interiors make the place feel even more inviting.

Garde Manger Cafe

I tried out Garde Manger Cafe and really loved their food. I am not so much of a healthy eater, but their stuff was definitely a delight. So here’s everything that I recommend having at Garde Manger Cafe.

Mumbai Local

Garde Manger Cafe

It’s literally bhelpuri made from chickpea, arugula leaves, paneer cubes and also has the regular ingredients like kurmuram, chopped onion and tomato. And chutneys added on top too – date and tamarind which is amazingly sweet and mint and coriander which adds that little chatpata flavor. Served in cute cones.

Roasted Tomato and Basil Soup

Garde Manger Cafe

This soup is as healthy as it gets – tomato soup, with the pulp and a little basil flavor. All good!

Zesty Quinoa Salad

Garde Manger Cafe

When wholesome Quinoa, lettuce, tomatoes, black beans mix with a fresh lemon vinaigrette, the salad ends up being super delicious. Full justice done to the name!

Cous Cous Upma

Garde Manger Cafe

Cous Cous that has been tempered with some curry leaves, some mustard seeds and some chopped tomato. And some Indian spices. Definitely a super healthy but tasty option.

Black Rice Salad

Garde Manger Cafe

I didn’t know black rice could be so delicious! This one’s topped with some serious veggies – bell peppers, tomato, red Cabbage, capers, green olives. And of course this too has that bursting lemon vinaigrette flavour going on.

Italian Caprese

Garde Manger Cafe

This is Bocconccini cheese, cherry tomatoes, basil in a mix of balsamic vinegar and pesto. A dish of alternating flavors and the cheese is really good!

Chickpeas and Walnut Banana Pie

Garde Manger Cafe

Warm and comforting! This is made from chickpea, banana and topped with walnuts. Definitely try this if you’re craving some warm sweet goodness.

Belgian Waffle

Garde Manger Cafe

A whole grain waffle – yes that’s right. So may be a little less guilt. Drizzled generously with Nutella, dark chocolate and milk chocolate.
Muesli Peanut Butter Smoothie

Garde Manger Cafe

Peanut butter smoothie with crunchy muesli. If you love your peanut butter, you may want to try this version of it too.
Anti Oxidant Smoothie

Garde Manger Cafe

A glass of this and you end up feeling super fresh. It’s got mint, banana, apple juice and basil.

So these are my favorites from Garde Manger Cafe. Do try them out. They are located in Vileparle E.

Sangria

Desi Deli Oshiwara

There is no going wrong with this amazing red wine Sangria. Done really well.

Desi Deli Oshiwara

Crunchy bread pieces with a really delicious pesto layered atop. It had a hint of rosemary and tasted delicious. This paired with the red wine Sangria is something you can spend an entire evening with!

Desi Deli Oshiwara

New addition to their super famous desi hot dogs. They had 3 options – a tangy, a spicy and a sweet.

The Tangy Dog had a nice pickle kinda after taste.

The Spicy one was actually the most delicious but careful – it does get really spicy!

The Sweet Dog has a really nice flavor from caramelized onions and a sweet sauce.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai – Review & Recommendations

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai
I’ve passed Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai so many times and yet I managed to go there only very recently. If you are passing by that Churchgate road in the evening or night, you will definitely notice the quaintly lit Mockingbird Cafe. It looks really pretty from the outside.  And the food is pretty good too.

Here’s a little video from my visit to Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Subscribe to my YouTube here

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai has a vibe of it’s own – wooden interiors, witty wall posts, great music and delicious food. When I was here, they did have the Hummus Festival going on in association with Chef’s Basket and because of this I did get to try out some hummus as well.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I started my meal with the hummus platter. This was essentially 3 different types of Hummus by Chef’s Basket along with some fresh and crispy Pita and Lavash from Mockingbird Cafe.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

The first type of Hummus I tried was the garlic one. I would say that the garlic flavor was pretty prominent. However, I did feel that it lacked that nice creamy texture which for me is pretty essential for Hummus.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

The next one was a Pesto flavored Hummus. Strong Pesto flavor – if you like that flavor then you will definitely enjoy this.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

And the last one was the red pepper Hummus. It was actually the one that I liked the most. It did have that slight fiery after taste.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Next I tried the Mexican Hummus Salad. This had peppers, cherry tomatoes, green and black olives and lettuce and topped with some basil leaves. It had the garlic hummus mixed in it so there was a pretty mild but lingering flavor from that. A generous amount of black pepper was sprinkled on top which did add it’s own element to the salad.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Next I tried something called Mix Cheese Chilly. These were balls made of paneer, Mozarella and Cheddar cheese together. These fried balls were tossed in a hot Sri Racha Sauce which did have a mild hint of sweetness as well. Even some onions and peppers were tossed in there which did have a nice flavor of their own. I quite enjoyed this dish – if you eat the pops quickly you will enjoy their crunchiness. And the hot and spicy flavor of the sauce is easily toned down by all the cheese.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I also tried their stone baked Margherita Pizza. The sauce here was nice and tangy and the fluffy cheese and that sauce together felt like an awesome combination. The crust to me felt a tad bit chewy, but to be honest the sauce was way too delicious to notice that!

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I also tried some of their Spaghetti Arrabiatta. Now this was literally perfect! Well done Spaghetti with the perfect slightly spicy, slightly tangy tomato sauce. It’s such a crucial dish, but not everyone can do it this well. I will definitely recommend this dish to any pasta lover!

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I also enjoyed some drinks along with my meal. One of them was Summery Melon – fresh watermelon juice, some cranberry syrup and a hint of lime. It wasn’t over sweet but in fact extremely refreshing. You can also feel a tad bit of apple juice in it. I also tried another drink called Paradise. It had a very peculiar raspberry flavor which hits you almost instantly. It’s ingredients also include passion fruit juice, orange juice and apple juice. It’s topped with some mint leaves as well.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Finally for dessert, I indulged in some Flourless Chocolate Cake with some Vanilla Ice Cream. This comes slightly warm and is drizzled with chocolate all around. It’s not all that gooey but pretty delicious. The warmth from the cake and the cool ice cream really blend well together.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

So that was it from my visit to the Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai and also my tryst with the Hummus Festival by Chef’s Basket. It was an absolute pleasure being hosted by Mockingbird Cafe and I hope to be back soon to try more of their food.

Chaayos Lower Parel

Chaayos Lower Parel
Chaayos Lower Parel almost became a convenient ordering in and chai place for me. But off late, the quality seems to be a bit off the radar. Not just the quality – even the overall taste.

So here’s a summary of my most recent order from Chaayos Lower Parel.

From the Zomato exclusive winter menu, Kulhad Pav Bhaji

Chaayos Lower Parel

It comes in this earthen kulhad. And the portion size is pretty good. You get 2 Kulhad’s and 2 pavs.

vChaayos Lower Parel

The ingredients however feel aweful. It tastes like an over masaledaar subzi and that nice buttery taste that needs to be there in the bhaji seems missing. They do give you Amul Butter to go with it. But that’s not enough to cut it! And the bhaji had some peanuts in it! Which didn’t feel good at all. Even the Pav was super dry and almost crumbly.

Chaayos Lower Parel

Homestyle Upma – another one from the winter menu.

unadjustednonraw_thumb_1f2b

This just feels dry and mealy. No substance to it at all! It has some basic vaghaar and that’s about it. Just like a couple of really fine pieces of tomato and thats all.

Chaayos Lower Parel

Poha

Chaayos Lower Parel

I used to honestly quite like the poha from Chaayos earlier. It used to seem pretty hot and fresh and was quite tasty as well. This I would say was homestyle poha – fluffy and delicious. But what I got this time was just poha that was totally moist and really aweful tasting. Once poha is over cooked or re heated too many times it kind of gives away and that’s what this one felt like. And it’s not because I home delivered it – I’ve had poha from them via delivery almost all the time.

Desi Chai

Chaayos Lower Parel

Thankfully this they still do right. Desi Chai, chose kadak patti, dudh kam and adrak, mint and tulsi for a slightly nippy evening. Felt good after all the other stuff bombed! And their chai packaging is pretty impressive too. Carton kettle with a plastic twist cap and inside is another almost flat bottle kind of holder. And the chai has no leaks or spills. They do charge an additional 30 bucks for packaging though!

unadjustednonraw_thumb_1f31

Chaayos Lower Parel

Chaayos Lower Parel

So this was my most recent experience with Chaayos. I have rated them earlier on Zomato very highly (4.5) and now I’d change that to 3. To be honest, their chai got them to 3!

I hope you enjoyed reading. And let’s be in touch for more food stories.
