Washington Apples in India!

Washington Apples in India Juicy Red
YES – You can have Washington Apples in India!

The Washington Apple Commission recently hosted an event talking about the benefits of consuming Washington Apples in India. This event was in association with the FBAI. I absolutely love these events hosted by the FBAI, because it’s a good mix of like-minded folks coming together and talking about interesting topics. The event was hosted at the beautiful St.Regis Hotel which does provide a spectacular sunset view of the city.

Chef Himanshu Taneja was also present at the event and he demonstrated the versatility of the Washington Apples – you could use it in cooking, baking and so much more. In fact, the spread that they laid out for us at the event, pretty much used the Washington Apple as one of the ingredients.

I’m not the biggest fan of apples in general, but Washington Apples have a special place in my heart. I remember eating these on some of my trips to the U.S. and that’s actually where I began to like apples. We received some apples on attending this event and I was totally reminded of the ones I had on my trips.

Apples are actually really good for health. That age old saying is true and here’s what Apples do:

  • Fight Diseases
  • Reduce risk of Cancer, Cholestrol, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Asthma
  • Improve Brain Health
  • High on Fiber
  • Good for Digestion
  • Promote Weightloss
  • No Fat
  • No Cholestrol

Apples come in 5 varieties:

Red Delicious

Golden Delicious

Fuji

Washington apples are special because they come from Washington, which is known to have the most fertile land for the best available apples. It’s indeed a good thing that we can enjoy these Washington Apples in India as well.

Apples are definitely not my most favorite fruit, but seeing all of the advantages I’m definitely going to try and get some at least a few times a week.

Do you love apples? Have you tried Washington Apples in India? Let me know in the comments below!

XOXO

New Menu at LIMA BKC

LIMA BKC
Sometime in February, I checked out the new menu at LIMA BKC. For those of you who aren’t aware, LIMA is a South American restaurant in Bandra Kurla Complex and serves specifically, Peruvian food. Trying authentic Peruvian food was a unique experience in itself, given that it was pretty much the first time for me.

LIMA BKC

The interiors are beautifully done at LIMA BKC and at night, it can turn into a nice cozy set up. Dim lights, a fancy bar and the ambience totally worked for me.

LIMA BKC

Coming to the food, here’s what I tried at LIMA BKC

LIMA BKC

I started with this Grape Drink which was such a beautiful purple color. It was amazingly sweet and a tiny bit bitter just like black grapes are. I also feel it had some kiwi in it. I enjoyed it.

I also gorged on their Tacos which were delicious. They were served with 3 very interesting dips – a salsa sauce made from Green Tomatoes, a regular Tomato salsa and some sour cream.

Next I had this Butter and Corn Zuppa, which felt like a warm and soothing, yet tasty corn broth. I quite enjoyed this.

LIMA BKC

Another dish that I thoroughly was the Green Peas and Potato Quesadilla. These are made from refined flour and the the filling has a prominent taste. This is further enhance with the cheese that feels wonderful.

LIMA BKC

Next I had something like a corn and cheese spring roll and this was called the Chimi Changa.

LIMA BKC

I also tried their Sweet Potato Gratin. It had an extremely overpowering sour taste which I didn’t quite enjoy.

But something that I did enjoy was the Bean stew and Mexican Rice. It was rice with beans in a tomato gravy.

And this was followed by something called Chilaquiles which was a baked Mexican dish. This too was tomato based and had beans and cheese. I love this combination!

Finally it was time for some dessert; so I started with something very familiar looking. This was something called After 9 – a chocolate and mint pastry. This was thick and dense, and the flavor of mint was spot on. However I did find it a tad bit chewy. This is the same After 9 that you get at Theobroma – however I am not sure if there is any relation between the two!

LIMA BKC

I also tried the Blue Berry Cheesecake which was really good.

So all in all, LIMA BKC was a pretty interesting experience for me. It was fun trying out this kind of cuisine for the first time. Also since this was an FBAI Soiree, I was in the company of so many fellow foodies and that made the evening even more enjoyable!

I hope you enjoyed reading this. Do visit LIMA BKC for a fancy yet interesting South American dining experience. Stay tuned for my next post.

Pleasant Mumbai night, good food, amazing cocktails and sheesha – that’s how I describe my time at 1Above. Oh, and what made the night more special was that it was an FBAI Soiree!

1Above is a newly launched placed in Mumbai. It is located at Kamala City in Lower Parel and has a beautiful terrace and indoor seating. The place serves food, drinks and sheesha.

When FBAI organizes a Soiree, you can be rest assured that it’s going to be a great night. They get together so many food enthusiasts and ensure that the night is legit lit! And because this place is so beautifully done, it definitely felt like a special evening.

1Above was serving some really great cocktails. Their bar is nicely done and the bartenders do go an extra mile in stirring up a great drink.

I also tried a lot of their finger food. Their nachos platter was absolutely delicious. Crisp nacho chips, cheese sauce and salsa that was just perfect. I absolutely enjoyed these.

They also had a vegetarian keema pav version which was again, really tasty.

And I also tried their Paneer Tikka which was super spicy but definitely appetizing.

1Above also serves sheesha in a variety of flavors.

I quite enjoyed my time at 1Above. If you are looking for a cool rooftop place to hang out around Lower Parel then this can be a great option. Their huge screens definitely make it a pick for watching some great sport, while you enjoy some good food and drinks. They do have a tiny indoor seating section, which seemed to be closed when I visited. All in all, a great place.
