Homemade Italian Food – A delicious challenge

Homemade Italian Food
Homemade Italian Food is something that I took up as a challenge.

I survived on homemade Italian food, for a full 24 hours. It was probably the greatest food challenge I could give myself. And of course I captured it all on video. Check out my homemade Italian Food challenge vlog below!

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

In this video I make Italian food at home. For someone who has never made a proper pizza from scratch, this is kind of a big deal! And I did refer to a lot of Youtube videos for being able to find the right recipes. For this video I made an Italian tomato sauce, which I used for pasta as well as Pizza.

Homemade Italian Food

Homemade Italian Food

I also made Tiramisu with back up ingredients. So this is a Tiramisu without any Mascarpone Cheese, Ladyfinger biscuits, eggs or liqueur.

Homemade Italian Food

I also tried to find out a few nuances of Italian culture – especially their breakfast patterns. And I found that they actually indulge in light breakfasts – some coffee (or tea / juice) and something sweet. It can be a Brioche (popularly known as Croissant) or a pastry or a simple cake (the ones without icing). They also indulge in Jam or preserve on toast. Nutella is also an Italian discovery and breakfast staple so that is what I picked for my Italian breakfast.

Homemade Italian Food

Overall, this was a great day for me. I ended up enjoying the best food I could possibly make.

I also did another challenge video where I indulged in IDLIS all day. Watch it below!

Bangkok Vegetarian Restaurant – Authentic Italian Food

A Bangkok vegetarian restaurant that is also vegan friendly and serves authentic Italian food; one would say too good to be true!

Govinda Pizzeria and Italian Food is the only Bangkok vegetarian restaurant that serves all vegetarian and vegan friendly Italian cuisine in Bangkok. In a country where as a vegetarian one may feel limited in terms of food options, this restaurant is a hidden gem. Watch this video from my visit to Govinda in Bangkok.

At Govinda, you could find vegan friendly cheese, meat replacements and of course delicious vegetarian food. All of the food I tried here is of exceptional quality.

Pane Della Casa

Bangkok Vegetarian Restaurant

This bread platter is something that you absolutely must try at Govinda. It includes their homemade bread, which by the way is amazing. And a red chilli spread, along with some chopped tomatoes mixed with olive oil and basil. The chilli spread is fiery, but delicious. And tomatoes on toasted bread is a match made in heaven!

Govinda Special Salad

Bangkok Vegetarian Restaurant

If you enjoy a good salad, then this is the one for you. It’s got it all – greens, flavour and cheese! Steamed spinach, lettuce, grated carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, avocado and also a few pieces of fried potatoes! And delicious vegetarian mozzarella cheese. This comes in quite a portion size so you will be able to enjoy a lot of fiber.

Pink Sauce Ravioli

Bangkok Vegetarian Restaurant

This is probably the most famous dish on the menu here at Govinda. Their pink sauce ravioli is perfection. The right balance of creamy and tangy flavours in the sauce and appropriately thick, and spinach stuffed ravioli. It’s difficult to stop eating this because its just so good!

Pizza

Bangkok Vegetarian Restaurant

I’d recommend trying their Margherita Pizza – simple and soulful. Perfect thin crust base, delicious sauce and lots of cheese.

Pana Cotta

A vegetarian version pana cotta and yet such a brilliant texture. Perfect melt in your mouth feel and topped with a generous amount of chocolate sauce, this is the best way to end your meal at Govinda.

I absolutely recommend Govinda in Bangkok. It is the best place for vegetarian Italian food and a must try whenever you are in the city.

Darios Pune – Vegetarian Food in Koregaon Park

Darios pune
Darios Pune for me will always be the place where I tried an Italian Thali!

I have a video from my visit to Darios Pune showcasing their Thali Italia. Watch it now!

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Darios has a couple of branches throughout Pune, but the one at Koregaon Park serves all vegetarian food. I honestly don’t know if their Thali Italia is a permanent part of the menu, but it really worked for me as I got to try a whole range of their dishes.

Darios Pune served really delicious Italian food. I would easily include them in some of the best Italian restaurants that I have ever visited (in India). They get their sauces right which is honestly a big win when it comes to Italian cuisine. And the best part is that their menu is so vast that it has something for everyone.

Darios pUNE

Darios was started by Chef Dario Dezio, originally from Sicily. He draws inspiration from the the Sicilian countryside which is very much part of the Darios vibe.

Not just the food, even the ambience is really gorgeous here. They have a beautiful indoor seating section and an even prettier outdoor area. And while I was there, we even had this stunning visitor.

Darios pune

And you need to see this place after the sun has set – the outdoor section is lit up with really dim lights and turns into the perfect cozy cafe that one can enjoy alone or with a special someone.

So when in Pune, definitely visit Darios.

Here are a few more places in Pune that you must check out:

Coming to Mumbai? Definitely check these old Parsi places that you must visit!

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant
Sapphire vegetarian restaurant is located in The Emerald hotel in Juhu.

You will find a wide variety of dishes across cuisines at Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant. This includes Mexican, Italian and even Greek food!

I recently visited this place and here is what I tried:

Manchow Soup

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

For me a good manchow soup is one that has the intense hot flavour from garlic and ginger. This one kind of lacked that. Also the fried noodles served with the soup had a slightly off taste – the kind that is when you have when the items are a little beyond their shelf life.

Veg Crispy

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

This is an extremely appetising Chinese starter. It’s fried vegetables coated with maida and sweet and spicy sauces. Again this lacked that zingy taste and honestly the vegetables weren’t crispy at all.

Hara Bhara Kebabs

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

These made up for everything! The Hara Bhara Kebabs at Sapphire are a must have.

Sugarcane Juice

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

They actually serve really good, fresh sugarcane juice. It’s got some ginger and lime which I love in a sugarcane juice. A welcome change from the over sweet fruit juices and artificial syrups that everyone serves.

Masala Papad

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

Nothing like deep fried, crunchy papad with tons of tomato and onion and chilli powder!

Veg Subz Biryani

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

Fried onion, carrots, peas, french beans, paneer and corn – all of these and the fragrant rice made for a pretty decent biryani. It’s served with some vegetable raita.

Gulab Jamun

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

These were indeed delicious. The perfect texture and taste.

If you visit Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant, I’d recommend trying Indian versus Chinese food. I personally preferred it more. And definitely indulge in their Hara Bhara Kebabs. They are perfection!

Romano’s JW Mariott Mumbai

Romano's JW Mariott
Special occasions call for an even more special celebration. So I decided to head to Romano’s JW Mariott to celebrate a really special day.

Romano's JW Mariott

We came to deciding Romano’s JW Mariott because we wanted to eat some good Italian food. And going by the looks of this place and whatever reviews I read, this seemed to be worth a try.

Romano's JW Mariott

The entrance does give you a major Italian feel and because I visited them during the holiday season, the place was beautifully decorated. We had a reservation and the staff assisted us to our table.

Romano's JW Mariott

The place is beautiful – open kitchen which is common to a lot of true Italian places. And the seating and ambience does spell a nice cozy dinner.

Romano's JW Mariott

My first order was Minestrone Di Verdure. This had a ton of pesto in it, something which I’m gradually beginning to like. Minestrone soup does not always have pesto, but I quite enjoyed it in this.

Romano's JW Mariott

With soup you get a portion of their fresh bread which was definitely something. It was a nice whole grain loaf which I quite enjoyed with some olive oil.

Romano's JW Mariott

Next I wanted to try their Margherita Pizza – which for me is the truest test of good Italian Pizza. And it was definitely something! The pizza base was perfect – i mean slightly crunchy on the sides and a little softer towards the center. And the cheese was top notch. And so was the pomodoro sauce – just perfectly tangy. And topped with basil leaves which lend a subtle, yet noticeable flavor.

Romano's JW Mariott

Then I moved straight to dessert and I was recommended the Vulcano Di Cioccolato which was a soft centered chocolate cake with some vanilla ice cream on the side. It was served warm, and if you have been following me you know that warm chocolate is my weakness. This was definitely one of the best one’s I’ve had.

Romano's JW Mariott

I definitely enjoyed this place. I think the food was extremely delicious and my overall experience was also really good. Their staff is really kind and definitely ensures that you have a great time.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai – Review & Recommendations

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai
I’ve passed Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai so many times and yet I managed to go there only very recently. If you are passing by that Churchgate road in the evening or night, you will definitely notice the quaintly lit Mockingbird Cafe. It looks really pretty from the outside.  And the food is pretty good too.

Here’s a little video from my visit to Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Subscribe to my YouTube here

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai has a vibe of it’s own – wooden interiors, witty wall posts, great music and delicious food. When I was here, they did have the Hummus Festival going on in association with Chef’s Basket and because of this I did get to try out some hummus as well.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I started my meal with the hummus platter. This was essentially 3 different types of Hummus by Chef’s Basket along with some fresh and crispy Pita and Lavash from Mockingbird Cafe.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

The first type of Hummus I tried was the garlic one. I would say that the garlic flavor was pretty prominent. However, I did feel that it lacked that nice creamy texture which for me is pretty essential for Hummus.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

The next one was a Pesto flavored Hummus. Strong Pesto flavor – if you like that flavor then you will definitely enjoy this.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

And the last one was the red pepper Hummus. It was actually the one that I liked the most. It did have that slight fiery after taste.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Next I tried the Mexican Hummus Salad. This had peppers, cherry tomatoes, green and black olives and lettuce and topped with some basil leaves. It had the garlic hummus mixed in it so there was a pretty mild but lingering flavor from that. A generous amount of black pepper was sprinkled on top which did add it’s own element to the salad.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Next I tried something called Mix Cheese Chilly. These were balls made of paneer, Mozarella and Cheddar cheese together. These fried balls were tossed in a hot Sri Racha Sauce which did have a mild hint of sweetness as well. Even some onions and peppers were tossed in there which did have a nice flavor of their own. I quite enjoyed this dish – if you eat the pops quickly you will enjoy their crunchiness. And the hot and spicy flavor of the sauce is easily toned down by all the cheese.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I also tried their stone baked Margherita Pizza. The sauce here was nice and tangy and the fluffy cheese and that sauce together felt like an awesome combination. The crust to me felt a tad bit chewy, but to be honest the sauce was way too delicious to notice that!

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I also tried some of their Spaghetti Arrabiatta. Now this was literally perfect! Well done Spaghetti with the perfect slightly spicy, slightly tangy tomato sauce. It’s such a crucial dish, but not everyone can do it this well. I will definitely recommend this dish to any pasta lover!

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

I also enjoyed some drinks along with my meal. One of them was Summery Melon – fresh watermelon juice, some cranberry syrup and a hint of lime. It wasn’t over sweet but in fact extremely refreshing. You can also feel a tad bit of apple juice in it. I also tried another drink called Paradise. It had a very peculiar raspberry flavor which hits you almost instantly. It’s ingredients also include passion fruit juice, orange juice and apple juice. It’s topped with some mint leaves as well.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

Finally for dessert, I indulged in some Flourless Chocolate Cake with some Vanilla Ice Cream. This comes slightly warm and is drizzled with chocolate all around. It’s not all that gooey but pretty delicious. The warmth from the cake and the cool ice cream really blend well together.

Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai

So that was it from my visit to the Mockingbird Cafe Mumbai and also my tryst with the Hummus Festival by Chef’s Basket. It was an absolute pleasure being hosted by Mockingbird Cafe and I hope to be back soon to try more of their food.

Caffe Primo Review

Caffe Primo
Craving Italian food can take me places! And this time it took me to Caffe Primo – an Italian restaurant in the Fort Area in Mumbai. This place is all vegetarian. The interiors are pretty cute too. Want to know how the food was? Then watch this!

Vibe

If I were to summarize my experience at Caffe Primo, it would be that it’s a decent effort to get some good Italian food going. Their soup was lovely. The pizza was too crispy. The bruschetta was a decadent mixture, yet delicious. Tiramisu for a vegetarian one it’s a great effort.

For someone who needs a vegetarian only place, Caffe Primo can be a great option. Not too many places in the Fort area are vegetarian only. So that is a major plus point for Caffe Primo.

The interiors of Caffe Primo are also well done. You get a nice cafe kind of vibe and at the same time the place isn’t too tiny and compact either. There’s plenty of seating available and if you are in large groups, you won’t find it difficult to accomodate yourself at all.

I would visit the place again, but obviously I’ll be pretty cautious about the pizza I order! And may be I would even repeat all the stuff I loved out here.

So that was it from my visit to Caffe Primo. I hope you enjoyed watching and reading this. My food journey is pretty interesting and updated all the time on my Social Media. So make sure you are following me there. Here are the links:
