Irani Cafes in Mumbai

Irani cafes
Parsi and Irani cafes are a great way to get a feel of old Mumbai.

While Mumbai has a lot of these places, I decided to pick out some of my favorite Irani cafes in Mumbai. You can watch all of them in the video below.

Irani cafes

Britannia & Co.

Britannia & Co. has such a massive following in Mumbai. Their quintessential dish – Berry Pulao is something that meat lovers and even vegetarians like myself swear by. They definitely have their own magical recipe which has been carried down through generations. Also, their caramel custard is the best I have ever eaten.

Yazdani Bakery

Another old Irani bakery, Yazdani is a must visit for biscuits, bun maska and Irani chai lovers. If you are lucky then you can get some piping hot pav with butter. Else definitely enjoy their range of biscuits – Ginger biscuits being the most unique ones that you can try.

Kyani & Co.

This is probably one of the oldest Irani cafe in Mumbai and runs super busy till date. You can enjoy their omlette, baked beans and toast and a whole lot more while you are here. While you are here definitely enjoy their mawa cake.

Sassanian Bakery

Another great place is Sassanian. They have a restaurant and also a bakery section and you have to try their Bread Pudding. It is one of the best ones you can find in Mumbai.

B.Merwan

This is a heaven for anyone who loves Mawa Cake. But to get that cake you need to reach the bakery really early in the morning as it is usually sold out by early noon. Apart from that, you can enjoy biscuits, mawa bun and a whole lot more bakery items.

There are many more Irani cafes and Parsi restaurants in Mumbai but these are some of my favorite ones. I’d love to know your favorite restaurant in Mumbai, so do leave that in the comments below.

Girgaon Food – What to eat in Girgaon Chowpatty and more

Girgaon Chowpatty 2
Girgaon Chowpatty is a famous hangout in Mumbai. But did you know that you get really amazing food in the by-lanes of Girgaon!

I have made 2 videos sharing all the food one must eat in Girgaon Chowpatty and in other parts of Girgaon. Watch them!

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Girgaon Chowpatty

At chowpatty, I recommend trying the Gola, Pav Bhaji, Pani Puri and Chowmein. You can get to know the exact stalls from the video above.

Manohar Pav Bhaji

Girgaon Chowpatty 2

This one didn’t appear in the video for Girgaon food, however it is a very famous place for pav bhaji in Mumbai. Visit Manohar pav bhaji to enjoy their tasty bhaji which is made in either butter or oil, as per your preference. I recommend the one made in butter because it definitely tastes better.

Dabeli Wala

Girgaon Chowpatty 2

This Dabeli wala sits opposite Sicka Nagar society and is so well known in the area. In fact his Dabeli sells like hot cakes and if you don’t go on time then you might not find any! I recommend trying the butter Dabeli here as it’s one of the best one you can find in Mumbai.

Borkar Vada Pav

Girgaon Chowpatty 2

This is located in the Navakal newspaper lane and you can find him every evening, selling really delicious and hot vada pav. The vada pav here has a really tasty filling – pretty different than the regular yellow batata vada filling. Definitely worth a try when you are in the area.

So those were my recommendations for Girgaon Chowpatty and other food places in Girgaon. Do visit these places and let me know your experience.

Sardar Pav Bhaji | Mumbai Street Food

Sardar Pav Bhaji is Mumbai’s oldest pav bhaji.

Afternoon, evening or night, Sardar Pav Bhaji is always packed. Watch this video to find out why.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Sardar Pav Bhaji is around since 1966 and that’s a legacy of overs 50 years. They started as a small food place serving a nutritious meal of mixed vegetables to the nearby mill workers. In those days, there wasn’t too much street food in Mumbai and also very limited options for affordable meals. So Sardar Pav Bhaji provided the much needed ammunition in terms of a filling meal to all the workers who would toil for hours in the sun. The sheer tenure of its operation has made Sardar Pav Bhaji a must visit name in Mumbai.

Another peculiar quality of Sardar Pav Bhaji is the sheer amount of butter they add in the bhaji. A whole chunk of Amul butter in a bhaji can sometimes feel a bit much, but that’s what makes Sardar Pav Bhaji so famous.

Since this place is always crowded, you will have to wait up in queue to get a seat. So in the meantime I recommend watching how this bhaji is made. Lots of vegetables, tasty spices and butter. They don’t add any color or tomato puree. So this bhaji doesn’t look too red but in fact as a more of a brownish color.

One plate of this pav bhaji cost approximately Rs.145 and you get a good portion of bhaji along with big buttered toasted pavs.

Sardar Pav Bhaji definitely needs to be in your list for famous Mumbai street food places. If you have not tried it out then do so. I personally do like their bhaji.

Binge eating day

binge eating day
A typical binge eating day for me is one where I’m consuming more junk than healthy food.

One such binge eating day happened very recently and you can watch this video about it here.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

My day starts of really well. I usually consume a fruit and almonds and some dry fruit – either dates or figs. And this is followed by some tea with biscuits.

As you saw in the video, lunch was at a place called Yauatcha in Bandra Kurla Complex. Yauatcha is a well known Asian fine dining restaurant in Mumbai and serves really good food. While I relished their turnip cakes and noodles, what I can’t seem to get off my mind is their dessert. They have such a beautiful dessert spread. I tried something called the Chocolate Pebble and it was a delicious dark chocolate and brownie dessert. So indulgent!

For me nothing beats a good biryani. So my friend decided to make some yummy Palak (spinach) biryani for dinner and it was relished by all of us. I’m definitely going to try making it on my own soon.

Lastly, what’s a binge eating day without Maggi?! So in this video you will see my version of vegetable Masala Maggi and it has fried potatoes, onions, tomatoes, capsicum and lots of Indian spices. Do try making it and I’m sure you will enjoy it.

So that was most of my binge eating day. I would love to know what you guys indulge in on your binge eating days. Do let me know in the comments below.

90s Indian Kid – Childhood Memories

90s Indian Kid
Every 90s Indian Kids will relate to this video.

Bourbon, Hajmola, ParleG, Gola and lots more. Watch this video and relive all these memories that are synonymous for any 90s Indian Kid!

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Whether its digging into a packet of colorful saunf or enjoying a Gola at Chowpatty, I definitely get the feels whenever I think about these things from my childhood.

Growing up in India in the 90s was so much fun. As a 90s Indian kid, you would have a lot of local brands and the western influence and consumerism was still very nascent. As such chocolates, drinks and activities were very local or ‘desi’ in nature. And that only turned out to be a good thing as its something that is not only a part of our childhood, but also makes it unique by adding that Indian element.

Some of my favorite things growing up were very local and also very inexpensive. Things like Fatafat, Hajmola, Saunf – barley cost a rupee or lesser then but we still reminisce about them!

It was also easier when all brands were not selling everything – like Britannia Bourbon was the original and there was just one best glucose biscuit – ParleG.

I also enjoyed a lot of candy while I was growing up and Pan Pasand will hold a special place in my heart. It is the best pan flavored candy yet!

An evening out too just felt so simple back then. Playing by the sea, building sand castles and ending that evening with some Kalakhatta gola meant the ideal Sunday. Even now when I am at Chowpatty and eating that gola, I feel the same sense of satisfaction.

As they say, live in the moment but cherish the memories. That’s kind of how I felt while filming this video. I hope you enjoyed this and relived a bit of your childhood. Do share it with your friends and family.

Quick Rajma Recipe

quick rajma recipe
This really quick Rajma recipe is perfect for busy weekdays.

If you love good home cooked food and even more when all it takes is just one pot, then this quick Rajma recipe is for you.

Watch the video for a really delicious yet quick Rajma recipe.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Rajma Chawal is one of the most comforting you can have. There’s something about eating Rajma thats freshly done ‘right-off-the-stove’; it’s purely soul satisfying. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that good Rajma can really uplift my mood. But its true that good Rajma takes time to cook. It tastes best when ingredients are allowed their individual cooking time. At least that’s how my Punjabi best friend taught me to make the real Punjabi style Rajma!

However, the slow cooking method can definitely take a lot of time. And for working days, while you may crave Rajma, it’s not always possible to spend that kind of time in the kitchen. So this recipe is for those kind of days when you need some comfort food with minimal time involved. Also, it used just 1 pressure cooker so there isn’t much to clean too!

The only effort in this recipe is chopping. Everything else just falls in place. And this Rajma has that nice homestyle, slightly tangy feel and it also doesn’t leave you feeling heavy and sleepy. So personally, this recipe really works!

Do try out this quick Rajma recipe and let me know how it works for you. I’d love to know if you have any quick cooking hacks. So definitely leave them in the comments below.

chinese restaurants in mumbai
One of my favorite cuisine is Chinese and so I thought of compiling the best Chinese Restaurants in Mumbai.

Watch this video about some of my most loved Chinese Restaurants in Mumbai.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Chinese food is available in plenty in Mumbai. Right from budget friendly eateries, to fine dining joints, Chinese and Asian cuisine is indeed loved by a lot of people, including me. So here’s a little more about these places that do justice to the cuisine in Mumbai.

China Garden

One of the oldest and one of my most loved eateries in the city, China Garden is the place you need to go to try Indianized Chinese food. Their manchurian, schezwan gravy and spring rolls will definitely keep you coming back for more.

Ling’s Pavillion

Another legendary restaurant in Mumbai, Ling’s Pavillion is popular, especially among tourists for their Chinese fare. If ever in Colaba, you should try out this place. And definitely try out their honey noodles with ice-cream. It’s one of the best.

Koko

Owned by the famous Tham brothers, Koko is an Asian gastropub in Lower Parel, Mumbai. I love their food – it’s good quality and even better taste. Don’t miss their turnip cakes – they’re the best!

China Bistro

This place is famous for its buffet lunch. You can definitely indulge in a wide variety of their dishes if you choose to go for their buffet.

Mama Goto

Another one for Asian cuisine, Koko has my heart not just for its food, but also its fun interiors. Its a really charming place and you should definitely visit.

China Gate

Another old favorite – China Gate has some of the best Chinese starters and appetizers. Crispy Corn with Waterchestnut and their Tsing Hai Potato are definitely something you should try.

Open China

A new entrant in the city, this place is great if you are celebrating a special occasion. Grand interiors and good food is how I like to describe it.

So those were some of my favorite Chinese Restaurants in Mumbai. Hope this list is helpful. Do visit and let me know about your experience.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

Hilton Sunday Brunch
The Hilton Sunday Brunch is one of my most enjoyed brunch experiences in Mumbai.

Good food with a beautiful ambience, is how I like to summarise my Hilton Sunday Brunch experience. You can watch the video below to get a first hand view of my experience at Hilton, Mumbai.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

A Sunday Brunch can be a very expensive affair. So it’s best to go to a place that satiates all your personal criteria. For me delicious food, good ambience and great service all make a brunch experience worth the cost. And in all honesty, the Hilton Sunday Brunch stood out in all 3 areas.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

The hotel itself is luxurious. Beautiful chandeliers, white interiors with soft lights all give the Hilton a very royal feel.

The Sunday Brunch is in the Brasserie restaurant in Hilton. The spread is good on variety but doesn’t include an unnecessary expanse. It is something that can be enjoyed in a single go and you don’t end up feeling like you missed out on stuff. For instance, the number of Live counters is much lesser than other brunches in the city. But this is good for someone who likes to get their money’s worth and experience the brunch in its entirety. Also, the spread is vegetarian friendly; which means that they have an equal number of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Quality and taste both are commendable.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

And of course the service. Staff so kind and responsive. They ensure that they treat every guest in the most special way possible.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

If you wish to indulge in a Sunday Brunch in Mumbai then I highly recommend the one at Hilton Mumbai. You can check out the video for the price and other details.

Mumbai Style Bhel Puri Recipe

Bhel puri
Bhel Puri is a dish loved by people across ages. It’s probable something that I tried at a very young age and haven’t been able to stop loving ever since.

Almost every Indian city has their own version of Bhel Puri and so does Mumbai. Mumbai style Bhel is filled with the most yummiest chutneys, raw mango or kairi and some peanuts and spicy chana dal.

Watch the full recipe of this delicious street style dish below and try it at home.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

For me Bhel Puri works as a snack and as a meal. It’s one of those dishes that is so versatile that it can literally be enjoyed any time of the day and also across seasons. A lot of people also like to eat a healthier version of this Bhel – one with pomegranate seeds, sprouts, cucumbers etc. But for me Bhel is something best enjoyed with all the sev and chutneys.

All of us have that one Bhel wala uncle near our house/work/college that satiates our cravings like no other. I remember having Pande ki Bhel, a vendor close to where I stayed in Mumbai. He would come every evening and I fondly remember enjoying this Bhel puri quite often.

In Mumbai, Chowpatty is known to have some good street food options, including Bhel. Watch this video from my evening at Chowpatty to know the best stalls for chaat, pav bhaji and more.

Hope you try out this Bhel puri recipe and also my Chowpatty food recommendations. You can subscribe to my Youtube channel here and stay tuned for more videos.
