Bosch Convection Microwave Oven – Review

I recently got my hands on the new Bosch convection microwave oven and I have to admit, it simplifies microwave cooking to a whole new level.

The new Bosch convection microwave oven comes in 2 size capacities – 32l and 23l. The one with the 32l capacity comes with a free Borosil starter kit. You can check it out here.

Features

The Bosch convection microwave oven is steel gray in color, has a protective glass covered door and also comes with a baking tray. Among other attachments, it includes wire racks and even a rotisserie skewer kit. In terms of functions this is a full fledged microwave oven with convection; which means that it provides the best possible cooking for different kinds of food items. It also boasts of a fry lite function which uses minimal oil while making fries, wedges and the like. You can even enjoy your favorite kebabs and Tandoori items using the tandoor function.

One thing that stood out for me while using this microwave was the ease of operation. It has multiple pre programmed settings for different food items so you can just select the dish you want to make and let it microwave as per the mentioned function. You can find all of these combinations in their instruction manual and they are specific to Indian food too. You can check out this video where I’m using the new Bosch convection microwave oven to cook 5 different types of dishes. Click here.

Why Microwave cooking works for me

For someone who is constantly on the go, microwave cooking is a good option. There are many days when I find myself pressed for time and unable to cook a meal. So putting something together in a single bowl and cooking it in the microwave at least ensures that I’m eating good home cooked food. As such, this microwave really simplifies that process with its easy recipe manual. However, even for eating something like grilled paneer or grilled vegetables, I have started relying on a microwave. Also it becomes simpler if you have just 1 device as compared to a different oven and griller.

Do I recommend it?

Yes. If you are looking to invest in a full on convection microwave oven with a whole bunch of features then definitely consider the Bosch convection microwave oven. Firstly the brand itself – Bosch is a name to reckon with in the electronics space. Secondly the features you get – you can literally go for days without having to cook gravies, rice, fries and so much more! You can choose from different auto-programmed dishes or even different power settings as per your convenience. I also love the steel gray color – it is something that can look good with most kitchen interiors. There’s no real installation – you plug and go! So it definitely makes life easier and would be a good choice while investing in a microwave.

If you are keen on checking out this microwave for your home then click here.

Must Try Thalis in Mumbai

thalis in Mumbai
Thalis for me are an indulgence – one platter with so much variety!

If you love your meals with at least 10 different items, and an unlimited portion then here are the absolute must try thalis in Mumbai.

Shree Thaker Bhojanalay

thalis in Mumbai

Undoubtedly the best Gujarati thali I’ve ever had. This place has been around since 1945 and actually started off serving a basic homestyle Gujarati meal. Even now, their food is made with the best ingredients, desi ghee and a lot of love and you need to indulge in this at least once. They serve thalis everyday for lunch and dinner. Their thali costs Rs.500 on weekdays and Rs.600 on Sunday and it is worth every penny. It includes subzis, dal, kadhi, different types of roti, papad, farsan, rice/pulao, khichdi, sweet dish, buttermilk and curd. And the taste is impeccable.

Watch my video experience of Shree Thaker Bhojanalay here

Delhi Highway

thalis in Mumbai

One of the few places to serve a Punjabi thali, Delhi Highway sure does a swell job. Their thali includes a welcome drink, some chaat, subzis, roti / naan, pulao / biryani, raita, dal and some desi sweets. Their food is very flavorful. Whether its their chaat or their paneer subzis, I’ve enjoyed them all. What adds to the experience here are their beautifully done interiors. You basically get a fine dining experience at an affordable price. Their thalis cost between Rs.499 – 650 + tax, depending on the day you visit them.

Watch my video experience of Delhi Highway here

Maharaja Bhog

thalis in Mumbai

If you want a  bit of Rajasthani and Gujarati food in your thali, then head over to the nearest Maharaja Bhog outlet. They have a good mix of both cuisines in their thalis. Their thali consists of chutneys, pickles, papad, welcome drink, farsan, a special dish of the day, dal / kadhi, rotis, rice, subzis, dessert and paan. It is a massive thali but if you want to indulge in some traditional food and want variety then this is the place. Their thali costs Rs.533 + tax on weekdays and Rs.581 + tax on weekends.

So those were my absolute must try thalis in Mumbai. If you have tried these places already then I’d love to know your experience here. So make sure you tell me that in the comments below. And if these places are new to you then do try them and let me know how you like them. You can watch some more videos on my Youtube channel here:

Growel’s 101 Mall – Thoosday!

Growel’s 101 mall in Kandivali, Mumbai is easily one of the biggest and most fun malls in Mumbai.

While Growel’s 101 offers a wide variety of shopping and fun activities, they even have a very interesting and attractive food court. And it gets even better on a Tuesday when you can avail of a flat 40% off on selected food outlets.

While you can find a ton of options to enjoy as part of the Thoosday offer at Growel’s 101, here are a few which I personally enjoyed.

Spring Rolls at Cafe Bollywood

Spring rolls stuffed with vegetables tossed in Schezwan Sauce – now this is something that anyone would love. These are priced at Rs.114 on Tuesdays as part of the offer.

Thali at Sanskriti

Want a full meal that includes roti, subzi, dal, chawal, sweetdish, lemonade and more? Then the Thali at Sanskriti is a good option. You can enjoy this for Rs.180 as part of Thoosday.

Pasta at Eatalia

A really cool Italian food outlet, Eatalia serves delicious pasta and the good thing is that it’s at 40% off on a Tuesday. Pick up the cheesy pasta or the Eatalia special for a price of Rs.163 each.

Alu Gobi Paratha at Only Parathas

These can be easily shared among 2 people as the sheer size of these parathas is quite good. You can even enjoy other food options in the Thoosday offer.

I absolutely loved my day at Growel’s 101 mall. There is so much to do, to shop and to eat. And you can make it even more worthwhile by checking out their Thoosday offer on Tuesdays.

Mumbai Street Food – Must Haves

Mumbai Street Food
I was born and brought up in Mumbai and here are my most favorite Mumbai Street Food picks.

Watch videos of Mumbai Street Food.

Mumbai is quite famous for its street food. Especially local items like Vada Pav and Pav Bhaji are extremely popular. The roadside sandwich too is quite a crowd puller. Here are my top picks for Mumbai Street Food.

Shree Krishna Batatawada

Mumbai Street Food

This place in Dadar serves the best Batatawada in the city. You get only wada and no pav. And this is best enjoyed with some mirchi on the side.

Raju Sandwich

Mumbai Street Food

This is in Churchgate close to H.R. & K.C. college and has a following of its own. Apart from the classic toast sandwich, they even make the weirdest Pizza and Panini.

Yummies

Mumbai Street Food

This place is located next to Rizvi College in Carter Road. And they are known for their Indianized Chinese food. Their schezwan sauce is so different and delicious.

Narayan Dosa

Mumbai Street Food

One of the best dosa places in the city – definitely try the Mysore Masala Dosa here. This place is located in Grant Road.

Bankelal Sharma Pav Bhaji at Chowpatty

Mumbai Street Food

Located in Girgaon Chowpatty Mumbai, this stall serves some really delicious Pav Bhaji. And super buttery as well.

Shree Krishna Gola at Chowpatty

Mumbai Street Food

You can’t go to Chowpatty and not eat gola! So this is a must have at Girgaon Chowpatty. Kalakhatta is a classic flavor but you can ask them to whip up some weird combination as well.

Sai Samarth Dosa Vile Parle

Mumbai Street Food

This is in the Vile Parle Khau Galli in Bajaj road and you should try the Jini Dosa here. Pretty interesting.

So those were few of my picks for Mumbai Street Food. If you want more street food options and places then leave that in the comments below and I’ll probably make a part 2 for this.

The Junction Matunga | Best Pancakes, Waffles, Shakes in Mumbai

Junction Matunga
Early this year The Junction Matunga opened its doors to serve the best waffles, pancakes and shakes.

Junction Matunga

Satisfy your sweet tooth at The Junction Matunga.

My recent visit there left me wanting to go back! I tried a whole bunch of things from their menu and loved most of them. Here’s what I tried at The Junction.

Pancakes

Junction Matunga

Red Velvet Bazooka

Junction Matunga

I’ve never been one to love Pancakes – until I tried the Red Velvet Bazooka at The Junction. So fluffy and so indulgent! These are red velvet pancakes topped up with an over generous amount of nutella and white chocolate. You can even request for some additional toppings. One portion serves served 10 mini pancakes and should cost approximately Rs.150.

The Godfather

Junction Matunga

Now this is exactly as the name suggests – EPIC! These pancakes are topped with nutella, dark and white chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, chocolate crisps and anything else that you want! Not only do these look so good, but they are also sinfully delicious. One portion serves served 10 mini pancakes and should cost approximately Rs.180.

Waffles

Junction Matunga

Valentines

Junction Matunga

These are the cutest waffles I’ve seen – red hearts topped with whopped cream and chocolate sauce. And such a good size. Their waffles are neither too crunchy nor too spongy. These would cost you Rs.180 and you get 2 heart shaped waffles in a serving.

Dark & White

Junction Matunga

This is a regular waffles but with a combination of white and dark chocolate and it is topped with white chocolate chips. I found their waffles to be slightly bigger than the other places serving waffles in the city. This costs you Rs.120.

Shakes

Junction Matunga

Popcorn

Junction Matunga

This is like drinking popcorn – the exact feel of munching popcorn is what you get with just 1 sip of the Popcorn shake at The Junction. And honestly, the flavor is kinda addictive. One bottle of this will cost you Rs.150.

Strawberry Cookie

Junction Matunga

Strawberry and cookies is quite an underrated combination. When I tried this milkshake here I was totally in love with the tarty strawberry flavour and the feel and flavor of a chocolate cookie with it. This costs Rs.150 and you absolutely must try it.

Judwaa

Junction Matunga

When Hazelnut, Chocolate and Nutella come together, it feels like this shake. Definitely a must try for anyone who loves that hazelnut flavor. This one will cost you Rs.150.

The Junction Matunga spells value for money for me. Generous toppings, so much variety, good flavors – they have it all going on. So if you feel like indulging on a budget then this is the place for you. They also have something called Bombay 21 in which you get 2 heart shaped waffles, 1 milkshake and 6 pancakes and all of this for Rs.360. It’s a very good deal if you are going in a group and want to try multiple things.

Taftoon

Taftoon means bread in Persian and at Taftoon BKC not only can you expect a variety of bread, but also some flavorful gravies, kebabs and lots more.

I recently had the chance to visit Taftoon BKC and here is what I had.

Kashmiri Kahwa

Taftoon Kashmiri Kahwa

I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my meal at Taftoon. They served up some warm Kashmiri Kahwa, complete with a lot of chopped almonds. Hot and beautifully sweet with honey. And the feel of having this in kulhads was incomparable.

Dahi Bhutteyan Kebab

Taftoon Dahi Bhutteyan Kebab

These were kebabs made from corn and hung curd. They had a sweet and spicy kind of flavor and were served with a delicious mint chutney.

Taftoon Chatpatey Paneer Tikke

Soft paneer cubes marinated in a tangy chutney of sorts – these were tasty beyond imagination.

Teen Miri Aloo

Something as simple as potatoes and pepper but done so well.

Soya Chaap

Very interesting flavor – soya marinated in a masala that had a ton of garlic and yoghurt.

Chotey Kulche Chhole

Taftoon Chotey Kulche Chhole

A very good portion size for someone wanting to have a solo meal. The Kulcha was stuffed with a delicious masaledaar filling, along with the chhole placed on top of it. And some pickled onions to go with this.

Chholar Dal Luchi

Chana dal made with lots of ghee and flavored with a lot of whole spices – this is one delicious item on their menu. Try this with luchis (puris) and you will be sorted.

Bharwaan Kadhai

Taftoon Bharwaan Kadhai

This has bhindi, mircha, brinjal, tomatoes that are stuffed with paneer. It has a delicious taste from the sweet and sour tomato gravy and the heavy flavoring from onion and ginger.

I relished this with some Lal Naan which is a crisp Amritsari roti topped with sesame seeds, Khamiri Roti, Besan Ki Roti which was perfect. On the side here was also some Maa Choliya Ki Dal which was mainly rajma and black dal, with a lovely creamy feel.

Lal Rogani Paneer

Taftoon Lal Rogani Paneer

Paneer cubes in another delicious tomato gravy with a very peculiar flavor.

Kofta Al Yakhni

Taftoon Kofta Al Yakhni

Lauki kofta in a mildly sour, yoghurt based gravy. Thoroughly enjoyed this with the Zaffrani Taftoon which had a very mild flavoring from saffron and cardamom.

Kaju Anjeer Malai Kulfi

This took my love for malai kulfi to a whole new level. Really creamy kulfi topped with caramelized figs and some chia seeds.

Taftoon Chhena Platter

A plate full of bite sized sweets – included ras malai, gulab jamun, rose sandwich sandesh and kheer kodom. Perfect if you like variety in your dessert.

Pi Bar and Kitchen, Andheri

Pi Bar
Pi Bar and Kitchen recently opened up in Andheri, Lokhandwala area.

Pi Bar and Kitchen is the second venture by the owners of Pi Pizzeria in Khar. This outlet is a bit bigger and of course, serves delicious Pizza.

For me, Pi Bar and Kitchen and also Pi Pizzeria is one of the best places to eat Pizza in the city of Mumbai. Their Pizza is gourmet style and very inspired from the English style Pizza and they actually do quite a swell job!

So here’s what I tried at Pi Bar and Kitchen on my last visit.

Dough Balls with Garlic Butter

Pi Bar

Their Dough Balls are something that I absolutely recommend trying out. Warm and the right kind of soft, and when dipped in garlic butter they can be such a joy.

Garlic Bread with Mozzarella

Pi Bar

This is the ultimate ‘comfort food’ level Garlic Bread. It’s very different than a regular Garlic bread that you find in restaurants – it’s not dry, it’s got a ton of mozzarella and it’s buttered to perfection.

Deep Fried Tortellini

Pi Bar

Homemade tortellini pasta stuffed with dry fruits and served with their house dip.

Cipriota Pizza

Pi Bar

Sun dried tomatoes, onions, cherry tomatoes and Feta Cheese on Pizza.

Quattro Pizza (14″)

Pi Bar

Their version of a 4 cheese Pizza. This one has Mozzarella, Fontal, Parmesan, Feta cheese.

Ciappino Pizza

Pi Bar

Basic – Garlic, Basil and onions. But so delicious! And their pizza sauce is exceptional – the right flavor!

They do get their Pizza Base right. It’s not too marshy like authentic Pizza, neither is it too crispy.

Pi Bar

Stuffed Caneloni

Pi Bar

Lots of marinara sauce, lots of mozzarella cheese and delicious flavor of Ricotta – absolutely loved the Caneloni.

Asparagus and Sundried Tomato Risotto

Pi Bar

This had an amazing flavor from the asparagus puree and sundried tomatoes.

Creamy Spinach Mash Potatoes

Pi Bar

Never tried Spinach flavored Mash potatoes before – these were equally buttery as other mash potatoes and you get a hint of spinach as an aftertaste.

Parmesan and Rosemary Truffle Fries

Pi Bar

Hot, crunchy fries! They did have an apparent Truffle flavor.

Cheesecake

Pi Bar

The cheesecake is really good and definitely does not over do the creaminess.

Tiramisu

Pi Bar

Probably one of the best Tiramisu in the city, this is something that you need to try here. It’s perfectly moist, the right amount of coffee and so creamy.

Molten Lava Cake

Pi Bar

Served warm, this one is a good indulgence for chocolate lovers.

Ginger Quest

Pi Bar

If you love a ginger flavored drink then this one is amazing. It also has that sweetness from Pomegranate. Very light and refreshing.

I highly recommend trying out Pi Bar and Kitchen. It’s one of my favorite places to relish gourmet Pizza and of course Tiramisu.

I hope this post was helpful. Stay tuned for my next one.

Shiv Sagar Kamala Mills

Shiv Sagar at Kamala Mills is the newest one in town.

All through college, Shiv Sagar at Churchgate used to be a common haunt. And I do have a lot of things that I love from their menu.

The newest outlet of Shiv Sagar at Kamala Mills is quite spacious. They have 2 levels of seating area and the upper section actually is even rented out for private parties and gatherings.

Here is everything I tried from my last visit to Shiv Sagar:

Pav Bhaji

shiv sagar

Any visit to Shiv Sagar is incomplete without indulging in their delicious Pav Bhaji. Everyone has their favorite ones in the city, and this does feature in one of mine. Their Bhaji is n’t too spicy – in fact it is the right kind of flavor and the Pavs are buttered to perfection.

Paneer Makhmali Tikka

shiv sagar

This is a new addition which is part of their specials menu called KamalaKaHamla. It’s a deliciously soft Paneer Tikka starter.

Paneer Albela

shiv sagar

Another one from their KamlaKaHamla menu, this one is a tad bit different than a regular Paneer Tikka – it has a khatta-meetha kind of flavor and is actually quite an interesting dish.

Triple Schezwan Rice

shiv sagar

I also indulged in their Triple Schezwan Rice which comes in a ton of quantity. It is fairly good and if you like Indian Chinese then you will enjoy this.

I also like their South Indian fare including idlis, dosas and uttapams. They even have decent subzi roti. It’s a good place if you are looking for a multi-cuisine, vegetarian, mid-range restaurant in Lower Parel.

That was it from my visit to Shiv Sagar. I hope this review was helpful. Stay tuned for more reviews and videos.
