Rajasthani Food Festival at Jamavar – The Leela Mumbai

Rajasthani food festival
If you love good food, then the Rajasthani Food Festival at Jamavar, The Leela Mumbai needs to be on your to-do list.

I recently had the opportunity of dining at The Leela Mumbai. This was my first brush with the brand in my own city and I was so happy that I got to experience a preview of their special Rajasthani Menu.

Here’s a little snippet from my visit.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

The Chef and the staff at Jamavar had prepared a complete meal; from starters to mains and finally dessert – everything was stellar.

There was a selection of pickles and chutneys. The bhindi with chura papad and the kairi and pyaaz kachumber (of sorts) stood out for me here.

Pickles

The Leela Mumbai

Then came the appetizers which were not only so beautifully plated, but also tasted divine.

Paneer Ke Sooley

Paneer ke sooley

A spicy marination on soft paneer chunks. This has a fiery flavor, but is delicious.

Ajmeri Kadhi Kachori

Chaat

I could definitely eat a plateful of this! The flavor of the chutneys and the crunch in the crust of this kachori totally did it for me.

Maawey aur Meewey Ki Seekh

Seekh

A seekh kebab, that was slightly on the sweeter side.

Arbi Akhrot Ki Tikki

Jamavar

A tikki made from walnuts and arbi; never knew it could be so delicious.

The main course was an equally exquisite spread

Paneer Mircha

paneer mircha

Panner, capsicum, onion in a spicy gravy. I highly recommend trying this out.

Govind Gatta Curry

Govind Gatta Curry

Big round dumplings or Gatta, is what is known as the Govind Gatta Curry. The gravy is delicious.

Sangri Ke Kofte

Rajasthani food

Very different tasting kofta. Enjoyed these with a selection of kulcha and roti.

Dal Baati Churma

Rajasthani Food Festival The Leela

For me, this was probably one of the best Dal Baatis I’ve had in a long time. The churma itself was so rich and while the baati was immersed in ghee, it was exceptionally tasty.

Aloo aur Chana Dal Ki Khichdi

Aloo and Chana Dal khichdi

A very simple, yet flavorful preparation of rice with chana dal and little potato pieces. The flavors of cinnamon and peppercorns in this took the dish to the next level.

I tried some pretty interesting dessert here as well.

Dessert at Jamavar

Matar Halwa

Halwa made from green peas. If you like the taste of raw green peas you may like this one.

Kesar Malai Kulfi

Probably the creamiest kulfi I’ve had in a long time. This was exceptional.

Malpua with Rabdi

Malpua topped with a thin layer of rabdi.

If you want to try out some delicious Rajasthani food in Mumbai, then make sure you check out this festival that is on until the 31st July at Jamavar, The Leela Mumbai. I absolutely recommend it.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

An all Apple dinner at Theory Mumbai

Theory Mumbai
Very recently, the FBAI got us to try out an all Apple menu at Theory Mumbai.

It was so interesting to see the special preparations done by the Chef of Theory Mumbai, to incorporate apples for a sit down, 4 course dinner.

Theory Mumbai

The US Apple Commission represents America’s finest apple produce, from various states. Apples are known for their health and nutritional benefits and I was super excited to try out a meal that was done with Apples as the primary ingredient.

So here the special Apple menu, that I had at Theory Mumbai.

Sangria

This had to be a first! Sangria did set the right tone for the evening.

Apple and Cinnamon Sparkler

Theory Mumbai

This felt like apple and probable more fruit juice, with a hint of cinnamon.

Poached Apple with Goat Cheese

Theory Mumbai

A salad with poached apples and a drizzle of red wine reduction. And some greens and goat cheese. It was really sumptuous.

Curried Carrot and Apple Soup

Theory Mumbai

Warm, thick and comforting. The soup had a nice consistency and was actually really flavorful.

Apple Gnocchi with Butternut Squash and Sage Butter

Theory Mumbai

Quite an interesting flavor.

Apple Cheese Cake

Theory Mumbai

The cheese cake was good, but the burnt butter ice cream with it was even better.

Apple Baklava

Theory Mumbai

It wasn’t shaped exactly like Baklava. And honestly, I didn’t care for this much. However, the vanilla ice cream with this, again was really top notch.

All in all, I was pretty impressed with the Apple-oriented dinner. It was amazing to see the kind of things the staff at Theory Mumbai came up with. And a lot of them were actually quite delicious. And of course, FBAI events are always a lot of fun.

Theory Mumbai

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

The Playlist Pizzeria

Playlist Pizzeria
The Playlist Pizzeria has been on my wishlist for a while, and I finally got a chance to grab a meal here.

Nestled in Bandra, close to Mount Mary steps, The Playlist Pizzeria offers an interesting Pizza experience. The theme of the restaurant, as the name suggests is pretty much connected to music. Even their wall clocks resemble a CD! And their menu is divided into starters which are termed Opening Act, Pizza varieties which are called The Mainstage and desserts which are essentially The After Party. I know this doesn’t really add tangible value, but I think it’s pretty interesting to see a differently named menu.

Playlist Pizzeria

Let’s straight jump in to all the interesting stuff I had here:

Signature Garlic Bread

Playlist Pizzeria Signature Garlic Bread

This is a very different kid of garlic bread. It comes like a super thin flat bread and the garlic flavor is extremely over powering. For me this was a good change from the regular thick garlic bread that we eat almost everywhere.

House Salad

Playlist Pizzeria House Salad

Very fresh and homestyle. It had rocket leaves, iceberg lettuce, apple, pomegranate in a mild olive oil and honey dressing. The sprinkled pepper on top gave it a nice edge.

Poker Face

Playlist Pizzeria Poker Face

Margherita Pizza – with a hint of sea salt. I loved the crust – it wasn’t soggy; but the right amount of crispy. And the tomato sauce was good too.

Make Your Own Pizza

Playlist Pizzeria Make Your Own Pizza

I added some tomato sauce, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, basil and peppers and it turned out pretty good!

Reverb

Playlist Pizzeria Reverb

Desi style Tandoori Paneer pizza, on a gluten free base. The pizza bread was made from ragi and honestly it tasted quite nice. This is slightly spicy, but if you like an Indian style pizza, then go ahead and order it.

Cheerleader

Playlist Pizzeria Cheerleader

Again, on a gluten free ragi base, this one had jalapeno, olives, tomato sauce and mozzarella.

Tiramisu

Playlist Pizzeria Tiramisu

This wasn’t the extremely creamy kind, that is filled with creamy mascarpone. It did have a lot of coffee though.

So that was it from my visit to The Playlist Pizzeria. Their pizza doesn’t seem completely authentic Italian, however it is really good. Definitely try their Ragi base Pizza as it’s gluten free and still quite delicious.

FoodServiceIndia – It’s about the whole experience

FoodServiceIndia
FoodServiceIndia is a company that literally brings together the complete meal experience.

Right from seasonings to helping a restaurant develop recipes, FoodServiceIndia completes the whole loop. Many-a-times, as consumers, we forget the nitty gritties that go in making our restaurant dining experiences memorable. And that there are so many people that work behind the scenes to give us that experience. And that’s where FoodServiceIndia comes in – solutions in the form of products that can be used in restaurant kitchens and also a method of using them correctly.

In terms of offerings, FoodServiceIndia provides the following:

FoodServiceIndia

  • Pre-mixes (gravies, curries etc)

FoodServiceIndia

  • Packaged spices & herbs

FoodServiceIndia

  • Sauces, dips & pastes

FoodServiceIndia

  • Soups

FoodServiceIndia

  • Cakes & confectionery

FoodServiceIndia

  • Beverage mixes

FoodServiceIndia

  • Marinades and coatings

And they have different brands that deliver the above mentioned offerings:

  • Chef’sArt – Seasonings, spices, dough, herbs, sauces, marinades etc)
  • Sunbay – Gravies
  • Marimbula – Beverage flavors
  • SpiceField – Whole & powdered spices
  • Springburst – Seasonings & flavor mixes

FoodServiceIndia

Not only does FoodServiceIndia provide the above mentioned solutions, they also demonstrate the best way to use these ingredients, develop recipes and provide complete training for implementing these. So as a restaurant, one gets a standardized recipe, with the right ingredients and also all the associated learning.

For restaurants, the ultimate moment of truth is whether a consumer comes back or not. And this happens, only when a consumer is completely satisfied with the dining experience. And the meal itself, does play an important part in this. Primarily the taste of what one is having needs to be good; and while this is a subjective topic, restaurants need to find a way in which they can appeal to most possible taste buds with the best possible offerings. So things like ingredients, freshness and quality, recipe and the method of preparation are crucial. And FoodServiceIndia takes care of this part of the process. I can say this with confidence, because I did end up trying some of their dishes and they did turn out well.

FoodServiceIndia

The Makhani Risotto for instance is being served as so many restaurants across the city and is already a big hit. And for all the right reasons – amazing taste and the flavor doesn’t feel artificial at all.

FoodServiceIndia

And this Kolkata style roll was definitely delicious; but the PiriPiri sprinkled fries are what got all my attention!

FoodServiceIndia

I even tried their dessert premixes and these were really delicious.

FoodServiceIndia

And I tried a whole array of mocktails prepared using different flavors of Marimbula.

FoodServiceIndia

The Paan Shake is something I personally love and enjoy having outside and it was amazing to see that it is actually the Marimbula syrup that does all the magic.

FoodServiceIndia

FoodServiceIndia already has a whole lot of restaurants not just in Mumbai, but across India that are using their products and solutions. And in Mumbai itself, they are helping Social, Hoppipola, DiBella to name a few. And you’d be surpised to know that a lot of the dishes you love here are probably using FoodServiceIndia ingredients! You should check them out on Facebook to know more about them. Click here

FoodServiceIndia

And in case you are interested in trying these out, you can find some of their syrups and seasoning online on Amazon.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Pi Pizzeria

Pi Pizzeria garlic bread with mozarella
Pi Pizzeria, located in Khar promises a really good, close to authentic flavor in it’s Pizza.

I recently visited Pi Pizzeria and was quite impressed with the food I had there.

Pi Pizzeria crust

For me, the Pizza crust itself is really important. While I don’t enjoy the completely moist base, i did enjoy the one I had at Pi Pizzeria. It kind of felt a little bit like a pan pizza, but a little more moist. I loved it!

So here is everything I had on my visit to Pi Pizzeria.

Garlic Bread with Mozarella

Pi Pizzeria garlic bread with mozarella

This is pretty different from the regular garlic bread we eat – literally hint of garlic and a good amount of Mozarella. Quite yum.

Dough Balls with Garlic Butter

Pi Pizzeria doughballs

I would go here just to have these 🙂 These are so delicious. Literally perfect and the garlic butter on the side is just an added bonus.

Quattro Formagii

Pi Pizzeria quattro formaagi

Excellent flavor. I normally am not the biggest fan of 4 cheese pizza, but this was an exception. It had Mozarella, Parmesan, Feta and Fontal cheese.

Genovese

Pi Pizzeria genovese

This had rocket leaves which for me is rather new on a Pizza. And the sauce was Pesto along with Parmesan cheese. Pretty good – the pesto is not too overpowering in it’s flavor, and rocket leaves and Parmesan is an excellent combination.

Cipriota

Pi Pizzeria cipriota

This one has Feta cheese, and a fair bit of exotic veggies – sun dried tomatoes, olives, cherry tomatoes and onion. Quite nice.

Testarossa

Pi Pizzeria

It’s quite tasty; the onion, peppers, garlic and olives go really well with the sauce. However, this does have bits of chilli.

Porcini

Pi Pizzeria

This one is Mushrooms, onions, sundried tomatoes and Parmesan. I am not the biggest fan of mushrooms, but if you are then you would love this.

Choco Lava Cake

Pi Pizzeria

This was a nice gooey lava cake. Best had really warm!

Pi Pizzeria lava cake

Cheesecake

Pi Pizzeria cheesecake

This was one good cheese cake. You should have this here – it’s really dense and doesn’t feel dry at all. Highly recommended.

I loved my meal at Pi Pizzeria. I would definitely go back and recommend you to check it out as well.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Shakahari Marriott Pune

Shakahari Marriott Thali
Royal Indian Experience at Shakahari Marriott Pune

I was so excited to visit Shakahari Marriott Pune – a restaurant in JW, that serves specialty Indian Cuisine. They cater to food from different states of India, and have dedicated specials for each of these as well.

Shakahari Marriott Mithai

When I visited Shakahari, they had a North Indian and Rajasthani menu. I quite enjoy both the cuisines so I had a great time. You should check out this video, that shows you everything from my visit here.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

If you saw the video, you know the ‘Royal Indian Experience’ at Shakahari isn’t an understatement.

JW Marriott Pune is a very well done property. It’s boasts of a different vibe to each of it’s restaurant. And the fact that the property does have a lot of space is an added advantage. I took the steps to head up to the restaurant and I could see their staff, dressed up in Indian attire, ready to welcome us.

Shakahari Marriott Royal

The minute you walk into Shakahari, that same sense of space kind of comes back to you. Sometimes you walk in to a restaurant and all you see around is hustle and bustle. Dishes all around, meals being served, large families – this is a typical scene that I have encountered many-a-time. However, the way this place is designed, conceals that very well. Larger dining area, a wider kitchen, which is still partially visible to guests give this place a more elegant feel.

1496934217177

In the thali I had, there was a mix of Rajasthani and North Indian dishes. Starters included Dahi Wada, Rajma Salad, Palak Patta Chaat, Besan Chilla to name a few. I absolutely loved the Dahi Wada. Main course included Puris, Gatta Kadhi, Dal Baati Churma and many more items.

Shakahari Marriott Laddoo

And the dessert was a whole mishthan bhandar – a sweet shop! There was so much variety in the kind of barfis available to motichur laddoo, to Kulfi and lots more.

Shakahari Marriott Kulfi

And we finished the meal with some Paan.

Shakahari Marriott Paan

I would definitely recommend you to try out Shakahari and experience this Royal Indian Meal.

Mango Specials at Sin Marine Plaza

Sin Marine plaza mango menu specials
Head over to Sin Marine Plaza to bid adieu to the king of fruits; albeit quite lavishly!

Sin Marine plaza Mango Menu

Sin Marine Plaza is serving some Mango Specials that you should definitely get your hands on.

These cost about Rs.375 per serving. And you can find a variety of dishes. I did try out some of the mango specials at Sin Marine Plaza and also liked a few of them. Here is what I tried.

Aam Ka Panna

Sin Marine plaza aam panna

Refreshing, especially in this heat. This is one good aam panna!

Baked Mango Cheese Cake

Sin Marine plaza mango cheese cake

Cheese cake with the goodness of Mango. I quite like the amalgamation of Mascarpone cheese with the sweet and sour flavor from the fruit,

Mango Chocolate Sensation

Sin Marine plaza mango chocolate sensation

A chocolate ball with Mango in it. Hot chocolate sauce is poured on this and watching the ball melt is a delight in itself! And so is eating it. However, for me chocolate and mango as a combination don’t really go.

Mango and Mint Pannacotta

Sin Marine plaza mint mango pannacotta

I didn’t think I’d like this combination, but it was really interesting. Mango custard with hints of mint all around – mostly in the form of mint caviar.

Mango Baklava

Sin Marine plaza mango baklava

This baklava was amazing. And I quite liked the addition of mango in it.

Mango Raspberry Criollo

Sin Marine plaza mango raspberry criollo

Mango in a mousse kinda texture, with a hint of raspberry and loads of white chocolate. This was actually really good. And it didn’t even feel that heavy.

Apart from these, Sin Marine Plaza even has Mango Shake, Mango with Whipped Cream and Ice Cream and also Aamras, served with puris. If you want to get your hands on some Mango-based dessert, I suggest you head right over to Sin Marine Plaza and try these out. And you will definitely find your pick.

Chaayos Versova

Chaayos Versova Palak Patta Chaat
I headed to Chaayos Versova one morning to check out the place and try out some of their Summer menu. And this post is going to be about my experience there.

Chaayos Versova is the brands’ 36th outlet, across Delhi and Mumbai. And this one has a really casual, relaxed vibe.

Wooden tables, soft music and an underlying chill vibe is how I like to describe the ambience. And the staff is super courteous and responsive too.

Chaayos Versova Black Chana Chaat

Let’s move to all the amazing food and chai I had at Chaayos Versova!

Palak Patta Crispies

Chaayos Versova Palak Chaat

Palak pakoda chaat. The pakodas are super crunchy and are topped with imli and gud (jaggery) chutney and loads of sev. The jalapeno on this gives them a slight twist. A tad bit spicy for me, I still loved these.

Kala Chana Chaat

Chaayos Versova Kala Chana Chaat

Proper hone style Black Chana with onion, tomato and loads of lime. And tossed with some Indian spices. This again is on the spicy side, but you can ask them to tone down the spices just like I did.

Bun Maska

Chaayos Versova

You have gotta eat this at any Chaayos! It’s a burger bun with such a generous amount of butter and warmed to perfection.

Golden Green

Chaayos Versova Gods Green

This honey green tea is all kinds of soothing.

Kesar Kulhad Chai

Chaayos Versova Kulhad Chai

Kesar has it’s own distinct flavor and it can feel very relaxing in a hot cup. This tea though is more on the sweeter side.

Paani kum, Adrak-Tulsi-Elaichi Chai

Chaayos Versova Adrak Chai

A tad bit milky for my liking, however the flavor from ginger and cardamom is totally on point.

Thandi Chai

They have now introduced chai lattes which is essentially cold tea with milk. And the one I tried was with the Sounf (Fennel) flavor. I’m not the biggest fan of having tea in this form, but the flavor of saunf in this one was amazing.

I definitely recommend trying out the new Chaayos Versova. Or you can pick from any of the outlets across the city.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Jamjar Diner Andheri

Jamjar Diner Pink sauce Pasta
Jamjar Diner has been on my wish list for a while and I recently had the opportunity to head here to try out their Summer Specials.

Jamjar Diner Jacket Potatoes with Mac and cheese

Located in Andheri, Jamjar Diner serves burgers, pizza, pasta, hot dogs, hand churned ice-creams and a lot more. Let’s straight jump in to what I had here.

Masala Chai

Jamjar Diner Masala chai

Even if it’s summer, I do need a minimum of 1 cup of my poison. And they served me some good, kadak Masala Chai here.

Nachos

Jamjar Diner Nachos

I definitely recommend ordering the Nachos here. The chips are super crisp and are a welcome change from so many other places that serve packed Corn Chips. And they come with Salsa, Beans, Jalapeno and some onions and tomatoes as well. The salsa is nice and tangy and the jalapeno adds that tinge of hot flavor.

Jacket Potatoes Mac & Cheese

Jamjar Diner Jacket Potatoes

I love potatoes and cheese and so I was completely sold on this one! Skinned Potato chunks, with a generous layer of Mac and Cheese on top. This dish can get quite heavy.

Pink Sauce Pasta

Jamjar Diner Pasta

I loved the sauce and the texture of the Pasta. The only hitch was there was too much of Chilli Flakes on top. Apart from that, it totally worked for me.

Chilli Garlic Pizza

Jamjar Diner Pizza

This one’s spicy – chillies and garlic all over a pizza. However, the taste of burnt garlic with the Pizza sauce and cheese feels amazing.

Old School Pizza

Jamjar Diner Chilli Garlic pizza

This comes with onion, capsicum and mushroom as toppings. Pretty simple, yet delicious. Their Pizza is thin crust and done to perfection.

Protein Power Smoothie

Dark Chocolate and Banana always work as a combination for me. And this one is no exception. This feels really wholesome and to be honest can be a meal in itself.

Berry Good Morning

Jamjar Diner Berry Good Morning

Mixed berries, Chia seeds, almonds, bananas among other things. If you love berries then this one’s a must try.

Flower Pot

Jamjar Diner Flower Pot

One indulgent flower pot this! Brownie, Oreo Cookie Crumbs, Marshmallows – basically all things nice. Highly recommended!

Jamjar Diner Interiors

Jamjar Diner Earthquake theme

Apart from good food, Jamjar Diner also boasts of really interesting interiors. They’ve tried to keep the old American Diner vibe – – which basically entails a whole lot of wooden furniture, grungy music and of course a vintage Jukebox. And they also have a cozy open air area, which can be quite nice in the evenings. And don’t miss the earthquake theme that they have going on while you take the stairs to head to their rooftop seating. It can be quite trippy! They also bake their own fresh bread everyday and you can even purchase it while you’re here.
