A restaurant is not only known for their food ingredients and taste, but also for the uniqueness in their dishes. And especially now, in timed of social media, we all want to witness something different. So I decided to try all the new Special Dishes at Sawai veg restaurant.

In terms of appetisers, they have a range of Indian tandoori and Chinese starters. Here is what I tried.

Spinach Malaysian

Sawai veg restaurant

This felt like spinach manchurian tossed in a delicious sauce. The generous amount of cashews and garlic on topped gave it an amazing flavour.

Rozali Kebab

Sawai veg restaurant

Paneer cubes, with paneer stuffing and topped with lots of cheese. This is one heavy duty dish.

Shanghai Paneer

Sawai veg restaurant

Paneer and veggies tosses in a hot and sweet kind of sauce. This dish also had a very generous amount of veggies including bell peppers, onions, cabbage and lots more.

Aloo Ki Nazakat

Sawai veg restaurant

Potato shells, filled with shredded vegetables and generously topped with cheese.

Cheese Soneri Kebab

Sawai veg restaurant

These boat shaped kebabs were nothing like I’ve ever seen before! Crunchy on the outside and a delicious filling inside.

I also tried the Sawai special Soup, which was a delicious sweet corn soup. Very creamy and comforting!

Sawai veg restaurant

In terms of main course too, I stuck to trying out their specials. The gravies here not only had a unique name, but were also quite different in their ingredient combinations and presentation.

Sawai veg restaurant

Kasturi Moti Masala

A delicious methi flavoured gravy. It also has a fried kofta of sorts, made from mixed veggies and is topped with lots of veggies.

Sawai Sev

This was a slightly spicy gravy with a sweet tikki inside. Very good alternating flavours from the sweet and cruncy tikki and the spicy yet tangy gravy.

Sawai Special Veg

A sweet yellow gravy topped with a generous amount of raisins, cashews and tutti fruiti bits. A lot of vegetables in this one – french beans, peas to name a few.

Paneer Rasida Masala

A rich paneer dish! Delicious tangy onion gravy with paneer cubes that were stuffed. This is actually more of a semi gravy – not too liquid, but absolutely lovely in taste.

Lajjatdar Tikki Masala

Another tikki and gravy combination. This tikki however was savoury and also went really well with the gravy, which is super creamy and thick. And the tikki also has a generous amount of methi, which is toned down by the creaminess of the gravy.

I recommend trying out Sawai veg restaurant in Pune. Apart from their specials, they also have regular gravies, snacks and a wide variety of desserts. You can know more about them on their website.

Shiv Sagar Kamala Mills

Shiv Sagar at Kamala Mills is the newest one in town.

All through college, Shiv Sagar at Churchgate used to be a common haunt. And I do have a lot of things that I love from their menu.

The newest outlet of Shiv Sagar at Kamala Mills is quite spacious. They have 2 levels of seating area and the upper section actually is even rented out for private parties and gatherings.

Here is everything I tried from my last visit to Shiv Sagar:

Pav Bhaji

shiv sagar

Any visit to Shiv Sagar is incomplete without indulging in their delicious Pav Bhaji. Everyone has their favorite ones in the city, and this does feature in one of mine. Their Bhaji is n’t too spicy – in fact it is the right kind of flavor and the Pavs are buttered to perfection.

Paneer Makhmali Tikka

shiv sagar

This is a new addition which is part of their specials menu called KamalaKaHamla. It’s a deliciously soft Paneer Tikka starter.

Paneer Albela

shiv sagar

Another one from their KamlaKaHamla menu, this one is a tad bit different than a regular Paneer Tikka – it has a khatta-meetha kind of flavor and is actually quite an interesting dish.

Triple Schezwan Rice

shiv sagar

I also indulged in their Triple Schezwan Rice which comes in a ton of quantity. It is fairly good and if you like Indian Chinese then you will enjoy this.

I also like their South Indian fare including idlis, dosas and uttapams. They even have decent subzi roti. It’s a good place if you are looking for a multi-cuisine, vegetarian, mid-range restaurant in Lower Parel.

That was it from my visit to Shiv Sagar. I hope this review was helpful. Stay tuned for more reviews and videos.

SUDAMA Pure Veg Restaurant | Review

Sudama pure Veg
Sudama Pure Veg is located in Krishna Palace Hotel in Mumbai.

Known for it’s creamy gravies and masala chai, Sudama Pure Veg definitely gets a lot of things right from it’s vast menu.

I recently visited Sudama Pure Veg and tried a whole bunch of things. Here’s what I had:

Oriental Soup

Sudama pure Veg

This was from their Asian menu and had a mix of tomato and hot chilli flavor to it. It also had some veggies inside like baby corn, cabbage and broccoli. It’s a bit on the spicier side.

Broccoli Almond Soup

Sudama pure Veg

It’s got a very raw taste from broccoli. And is strictly for someone who enjoys that vegetable! It is super creamy in texture, but the taste didn’t quite work for me.

Chilli Cheese Toast

Sudama pure Veg

This was perfection! It’s been a while since I had such good Chilli Cheese Toast and I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the place.

Dragon Paneer

Sudama pure Veg

Fried paneer chunks coated with a delicious sauce. It also had loads of garlic and that along with the sauce made for a very tasty dish.

Veg Tava Roll

Sudama pure Veg

A fried vegetable roll in a spinach and mint gravy. Quite a different dish! It almost feels like hara bhara kebab with creamy spinach gravy over it. It does taste quite nice.

Subzi Chilli Milli

Sudama pure Veg

Mix veggies in 2 gravies – one is more on the sweeter side and the other is spicy. I personally loved the sweet gravy.

Birbal-E-Paneer

Sudama pure Veg

Paneer chunks in a rich and creamy, onion tomato gravy. Neither is it too sweet nor too spicy.

I relished the subzis with an assorted bread basket of rotis, kulchas and parathas.

Sudama pure Veg

Chocolate Bomb

Sudama pure Veg

Finally for dessert I tried their Chocolate Bomb. This isn’t just delicious to eat, but also fun to watch. It’s basically a whole ball of chocolate which totally crumbles right in front of you.

Sudama pure Veg

I also tried their Masala Chai. Very strong and good flavor. And in mocktails I tried their Blackcurrant Pop and Yuzu Tree.

Sudama pure Veg

Sudama pure Veg

I recommend trying out Sudama Pure Veg. Their food is quite good and so is the quantity.

I hope this review was helpful. Stay tuned for my next post.

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant
Sapphire vegetarian restaurant is located in The Emerald hotel in Juhu.

You will find a wide variety of dishes across cuisines at Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant. This includes Mexican, Italian and even Greek food!

I recently visited this place and here is what I tried:

Manchow Soup

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

For me a good manchow soup is one that has the intense hot flavour from garlic and ginger. This one kind of lacked that. Also the fried noodles served with the soup had a slightly off taste – the kind that is when you have when the items are a little beyond their shelf life.

Veg Crispy

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

This is an extremely appetising Chinese starter. It’s fried vegetables coated with maida and sweet and spicy sauces. Again this lacked that zingy taste and honestly the vegetables weren’t crispy at all.

Hara Bhara Kebabs

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

These made up for everything! The Hara Bhara Kebabs at Sapphire are a must have.

Sugarcane Juice

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

They actually serve really good, fresh sugarcane juice. It’s got some ginger and lime which I love in a sugarcane juice. A welcome change from the over sweet fruit juices and artificial syrups that everyone serves.

Masala Papad

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

Nothing like deep fried, crunchy papad with tons of tomato and onion and chilli powder!

Veg Subz Biryani

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

Fried onion, carrots, peas, french beans, paneer and corn – all of these and the fragrant rice made for a pretty decent biryani. It’s served with some vegetable raita.

Gulab Jamun

Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant

These were indeed delicious. The perfect texture and taste.

If you visit Sapphire Vegetarian Restaurant, I’d recommend trying Indian versus Chinese food. I personally preferred it more. And definitely indulge in their Hara Bhara Kebabs. They are perfection!

I hope this review was helpful. Stay tuned for my next post.

An all Apple dinner at Theory Mumbai

Theory Mumbai
Very recently, the FBAI got us to try out an all Apple menu at Theory Mumbai.

It was so interesting to see the special preparations done by the Chef of Theory Mumbai, to incorporate apples for a sit down, 4 course dinner.

Theory Mumbai

The US Apple Commission represents America’s finest apple produce, from various states. Apples are known for their health and nutritional benefits and I was super excited to try out a meal that was done with Apples as the primary ingredient.

So here the special Apple menu, that I had at Theory Mumbai.

Sangria

This had to be a first! Sangria did set the right tone for the evening.

Apple and Cinnamon Sparkler

Theory Mumbai

This felt like apple and probable more fruit juice, with a hint of cinnamon.

Poached Apple with Goat Cheese

Theory Mumbai

A salad with poached apples and a drizzle of red wine reduction. And some greens and goat cheese. It was really sumptuous.

Curried Carrot and Apple Soup

Theory Mumbai

Warm, thick and comforting. The soup had a nice consistency and was actually really flavorful.

Apple Gnocchi with Butternut Squash and Sage Butter

Theory Mumbai

Quite an interesting flavor.

Apple Cheese Cake

Theory Mumbai

The cheese cake was good, but the burnt butter ice cream with it was even better.

Apple Baklava

Theory Mumbai

It wasn’t shaped exactly like Baklava. And honestly, I didn’t care for this much. However, the vanilla ice cream with this, again was really top notch.

All in all, I was pretty impressed with the Apple-oriented dinner. It was amazing to see the kind of things the staff at Theory Mumbai came up with. And a lot of them were actually quite delicious. And of course, FBAI events are always a lot of fun.

Theory Mumbai

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Shakahari Marriott Pune

Shakahari Marriott Thali
Royal Indian Experience at Shakahari Marriott Pune

I was so excited to visit Shakahari Marriott Pune – a restaurant in JW, that serves specialty Indian Cuisine. They cater to food from different states of India, and have dedicated specials for each of these as well.

Shakahari Marriott Mithai

When I visited Shakahari, they had a North Indian and Rajasthani menu. I quite enjoy both the cuisines so I had a great time. You should check out this video, that shows you everything from my visit here.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

If you saw the video, you know the ‘Royal Indian Experience’ at Shakahari isn’t an understatement.

JW Marriott Pune is a very well done property. It’s boasts of a different vibe to each of it’s restaurant. And the fact that the property does have a lot of space is an added advantage. I took the steps to head up to the restaurant and I could see their staff, dressed up in Indian attire, ready to welcome us.

Shakahari Marriott Royal

The minute you walk into Shakahari, that same sense of space kind of comes back to you. Sometimes you walk in to a restaurant and all you see around is hustle and bustle. Dishes all around, meals being served, large families – this is a typical scene that I have encountered many-a-time. However, the way this place is designed, conceals that very well. Larger dining area, a wider kitchen, which is still partially visible to guests give this place a more elegant feel.

1496934217177

In the thali I had, there was a mix of Rajasthani and North Indian dishes. Starters included Dahi Wada, Rajma Salad, Palak Patta Chaat, Besan Chilla to name a few. I absolutely loved the Dahi Wada. Main course included Puris, Gatta Kadhi, Dal Baati Churma and many more items.

Shakahari Marriott Laddoo

And the dessert was a whole mishthan bhandar – a sweet shop! There was so much variety in the kind of barfis available to motichur laddoo, to Kulfi and lots more.

Shakahari Marriott Kulfi

And we finished the meal with some Paan.

Shakahari Marriott Paan

I would definitely recommend you to try out Shakahari and experience this Royal Indian Meal.

Shakahari Marriott Dessert

Vortex South

Vortex South Kebab
Vortex South is yet another name in the all vegetarian bars that South Mumbai seems to be buzzing with.

The interiors are pretty interesting. It kinda seemed to me that Vortex South could even be a cool co-working space during the day- at least it seemed that way from their design. I came here for dinner recently and was quite happy with my food. Here is a sneak peek of everything I tried at Vortex South.

Tomato Basil Soup

Vortex South Tomato Basil Soup

If I see this on the menu, chances are that I’m trying it out! And it wasn’t a let down at all. Good consistency and flavor.

Assorted Kebab Platter

Vortex South Paneer

The staff at Vortex South was kind enough to serve an assorted kebab platter to me, so that I would get to sample the most. And i liked a lot of these.

The Cornobell was amazing. It was a seekh kebab with corn and bell peppers.

Cheddar Babies were delicious too. Basically baby potatoes with cheese and a heavy basil flavor.

Kaveri – this was paneer tikka with a massive curry leaf flavor.

Khatta is the new spice – a mildly sour kind of twist to paneer tikka.

There were more too. But the ones listed above were the best.

Cheese Burst Pizza

Vortex South Cheese Burst

You can see the cheese burst right here – it was a total overdose of cheese.

And the amount of veggie toppings was seriously generous! The sauce was slightly home-style, but honestly I didn’t mind it.

Masala Pasta

Vortex South Masala Pasta

I’ve never really enjoyed a white sauce pasta. And call me Desi, but this one with all the right masalas totally worked for me 🙂

Triple Schezwan Rice

Vortex South Triple Schezwan

This was amazing – that proper old-style Indian-Chinese flavor was so spot on!

Sizzling Brownie

Vortex South sizzling brownie

The brownie didn’t feel old, but in fact was perfectly warm. And the sheer size of the brownie chunk – it was enormous!

Berry Mist

Vortex South Cocktails

This is an all berry drink – different berry juices and slushes together. So it has a very tarty taste – something I love.

Lava FlowVortex South Mocktails

This is like a Banana and Coconut Cream drink. If you love these, then you will enjoy this.

So that was it from my visit to Vortex South. Do try out the place if you are in the area.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!
