Suvarna Mahal Thali – Rambagh Palace

Suvarna Mahal royal thali

I explored the Pink city of Jaipur and spotted ‘gold’ here! It is the exquisite Suvarna Mahal restaurant where I tried the most expensive thali in Jaipur. The Thali is an unlimited deal full of Indian delicacies like Hasrat-e-husn, Makai Shehzadi, and local Rajasthani varieties like Dal Baati, Laal Maas and so much more.

It’s not just these dishes that put the ‘Shahee’ in this, even the glamorous ambience of this place adds to that royal feeling.

The delicacies are served in golden dinnerware and with cutlery designed by Versace, the walls are adorned with silk wallpapers, a 100 meters long Kashmiri Carpet lies beneath. It’s an experience of dining like royalty.

Thali Price – Rs. 6000 + Taxes

The Thali is divided into 3 parts and one thing that is served on every table is the Papad Platter

Appetizers

  • Hasrat-e-Husn [Paneer tikka]
  • Sabz Hara Kabab [Hara bhara kabab]

Main course Thali

  • Salad
  • Dhungar Paneer [Paneer sabzi]
  • Nizami Sabz Handi [Mix Veg sabzi]
  • Kumbh Mutter [Mutter sabzi]
  • Makai Shehzadi [Palak corn]
  • Dal Suvarna [Dal Makhani ]
  • Raita

The breads served with these veggies were

  • Hare Mutter ka paratha
  • Pudina Paratha
  • Naan

And Khuska (rice preparation)

Dessert

  • Malpua Rabdi
  • Shahee Tukda
  • Badam Halwa

Watch the full Suvarna Mahal Thali experience on my Youtube channel.

Previously, this was a dining room where the Maharaja hosted dinner parties, there was just one large table in this room which accommodated 80 people, and each of them had their own butlers. The entire room speaks of its history through the vintage chandeliers, paintings and heirlooms placed around it.

You can relish the meal at your pace while enjoying the lively music and ambience. The food was very delicious and the service was very impressive. You can order this thali, or you have many other options in Non-vegetarian. You can also order À-la-carte

I would rate this as a once in a lifetime experience.

I also stayed at Rambagh Palace, one of the most expensive hotels in India. Watch that too!

Hilton Sunday Brunch

Hilton Sunday Brunch
The Hilton Sunday Brunch is one of my most enjoyed brunch experiences in Mumbai.

Good food with a beautiful ambience, is how I like to summarise my Hilton Sunday Brunch experience. You can watch the video below to get a first hand view of my experience at Hilton, Mumbai.

A Sunday Brunch can be a very expensive affair. So it’s best to go to a place that satiates all your personal criteria. For me delicious food, good ambience and great service all make a brunch experience worth the cost. And in all honesty, the Hilton Sunday Brunch stood out in all 3 areas.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

The hotel itself is luxurious. Beautiful chandeliers, white interiors with soft lights all give the Hilton a very royal feel.

The Sunday Brunch is in the Brasserie restaurant in Hilton. The spread is good on variety but doesn’t include an unnecessary expanse. It is something that can be enjoyed in a single go and you don’t end up feeling like you missed out on stuff. For instance, the number of Live counters is much lesser than other brunches in the city. But this is good for someone who likes to get their money’s worth and experience the brunch in its entirety. Also, the spread is vegetarian friendly; which means that they have an equal number of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Quality and taste both are commendable.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

And of course the service. Staff so kind and responsive. They ensure that they treat every guest in the most special way possible.

Hilton Sunday Brunch

If you wish to indulge in a Sunday Brunch in Mumbai then I highly recommend the one at Hilton Mumbai. You can check out the video for the price and other details.

Sunday Brunch at The JW SAHAR Mumbai

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch
I’ve been to JW Sahar on multiple occasions; but this time was special as I was visiting them for their Sunday Brunch.

JW Sahar is known to have one of the best (and also the priciest) Sunday Brunches in the city. It starts at Rs.2700+ and the various pricing options include mocktails, alcohol and champagne respectively.

To give you a glimpse of the whole brunch buffet, I have this video. Do watch it and subscribe to my Youtube channel for more video content.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

Out of all the delicious food at the brunch, here are a few things that I tried and loved.

Chaat

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

The brunch has an entire section dedicated to chaat and you will find so many different things – Palak Patta Chaat, Samosa, Dabeli, Ragda Pattice, Pani Puri, Dahi Papdi and lots more. If you love chaat then definitely indulge!

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Pasta

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Pick and choose your sauce and veggies or ask a special recommendation from the Chef – the Pasta at JW Sahar doesn’t disappoint. Since this brunch happened to be a Thanksgiving themed one, I got to try their Pumpkin Ravioli. The feel of butter in this was just out of this world. I also indulged in the classic Arrabiata and it was the perfect tangy flavor.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Tex Mex

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

I love my tex mex so I indulged in some nachos and also some Quesadilla.

Indian Main Course

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

The one thing that stood out for me in the main course was their Dal Makhani. This was the first time I actually tried it and boy was it good! Creamy, flavorful and very comforting. I also tried the Chhole, Biryani and the Papad variety.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

If you saw the video, then you’d know that the brunch is massive. Apart from the food mentioned above, you also find a whole section dedicated to Cheese, greens and fresh salad, sushi and Japanese cuisine, Thai food, cold-cuts, sea food and lots more.

But the section that completely stole my heart was the Dessert.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

You can see the huge variety in this section right from the time you enter JW Cafe. And it’s honestly so beautifully arranged and presented that a part of you would definitely want to pick something up right away. Liqueur filled chocolate bars, cakes, pastries, Indian mithai variety – you will find all of this here! It’s such a massive spread. And it’s not just the quantity of dessert; it’s also the presentation. I mean I’ve seen some of the prettiest looking cupcakes here.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

Even the Waffle and Pancake station is such a hit. They are undoubtedly one of the best waffles you will find in the city. And you choose an array of toppings – sauces, fruits, sprinkles, brownies, fruit syrups and what not. Enjoy these plain or with some ice cream to finish off a super lavish meal.

JW Sahar Sunday Brunch

So that was it from my visit to the JW Sahar Sunday Brunch. Definitely visit and share your experience with me. And do keep extra room for dessert!

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai – New Menu

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai
Very recently, The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai revamped their menu.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai is a restaurant serving authentic Chinese food.

I associate The Leela properties and their respective restaurants with grandeur and a very magnificent experience. I had the same feeling when I stayed at The Leela in Goa a few years ago. And also when I dined at Jamavar, at The Leela Mumbai.

The Great Wall is honestly no different. The interiors are spacious – sometimes even the best of the restaurants have really tight seating, or the tables are too close to one another. But here, the seating is very carefully arranged in a way that even if the restaurant was full, you could still be enjoying a rather private meal. And if you are lucky, then you may just find a table by the window and that can make for a beautiful view, while you enjoy some good Chinese food.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

As soon as you are seated and comfortable, the staff will serve you some Jasmine tea. And you can sip that, whilst deciding what you need to order. You can also munch on some peanuts, cabbage kimchi and even fruit kimchi while you wait for your order to arrive.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

I started with some soup and tried out a little bit of the Manchow and the Sweet Corn Soup. The Manchow Soup felt like perfection – warm goodness from all the ginger-garlic. The Sweet Corn Soup was generously topped with vegetables and was indeed very comforting.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

I tried a whole bunch of their appetizers.

Cheong Fun Dim Sum – they’re made fresh and have a delicately thin outer covering and a very generous filling of vegetables. These were melt in your mouth – the flavor of the vegetables along with the mild sauce was exceptional.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

Onion Pancakes – these were as delicious as they look! Deep fried and with an extremely tasty stuffing inside. I absolutely recommend ordering these.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

Crispy Honey Chilli Vegetable – large chunks of vegetables, deep fried. They had a splendid hot and sweet kind of taste.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

I also completely over-indulged while eating my main course. I tried their Singapore Rice Noodles which were yellow in color and came with some vegetables. They felt extremely light and went perfectly with the Fresh Garden Greens in Hot Garlic Sauce. I also tried their Fried Rice with Star Anise, Caramelized Onions and Fried Garlic. This had a distinctive flavor and was such a good combination with the Wok Fried Greens in the Ponzu Sauce. This gravy was very light, and had an almost citrusy feel to it. The water chestnuts, broccoli, tofu, carrots did lend their flavor and all in all I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

For dessert I tried their signature dish – the Gula Melaka. A pudding made from Sago and Coconut Milk. Very different!

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

And I also tried their Handmade Hazelnut Ice Cream – and this is officially the best hazelnut ice cream I’ve tasted in the longest time. It is so beautifully creamy just so pleasing!

The Great Wall at The Leela Mumbai

The staff at The Great Wall are extremely polite and helpful. They not only guide you on what you should order, but also provide recommendations based on your likes, allergies etc.

I totally recommend this place. It’s gorgeous and serves delicious food.

They also have a very interesting set menu for lunch on weekdays and you could even check that out.

POH Mumbai – A Premium Dining Experience

POH MUMBAI
POH Mumbai (Progressive Oriental House) recently opened up at Kamla Mills Oasis City.

Not only does it serve delicious Asian cuisine, but POH Mumbai also provides an elaborate dining experience.

POH MUMBAI

When it comes to Asian cuisine, I am not the most experimental. I feel like I’m more comfortable with the Indianized version of Asian food as opposed to enjoying a completely authentic meal. And when I went to POH Mumbai, I honestly wasn’t expecting to be absolutely blown away by what I tried.

POH MUMBAI

Let’s talk about the ambience first – the minute you step inside POH, you know that you are in for a really luxury experience. The way the place is done, the dim lighting, the beautiful bar – everything just spells elaborate. Even their cutlery is the handmade variety so no two glasses would be absolutely identical. Their staff is extremely kind and soft spoken and go out of their way to ensure that what you order would be suited to your palate, in terms of food preferences and allergies.

I was lucky enough to be able to have a special sample menu for myself so I could try various dishes. Here’s all of the stuff I tried.

I began with the amuse bouche. This had a particularly hot taste.

POH MUMBAI

The first – Crispy Banana Blossom Salad. It had a mild tamarind flavor and a while lot of chopped peanuts. It tasted as elaborate as it looked.

POH MUMBAI

Next I tried something called Not A Caprese. Packed with Burrata and loads of greens.

POH MUMBAI

Then there was this dish made from Sweet Potato that was topped with green curry and butter. It also had really thin Zucchini slices which honestly tasted delicious from as they were completely drenched with the green curry.

POH MUMBAI

Then I tried their version of the Lotus Stem – they didn’t fry it but was dehydrated and it had a generous amount of pepper. It did come with some sour cream on the side to tone down the pepper. This was absolutely delicious.

POH MUMBAI

There was also the Red Kidney bean Gyoza with some chickpea mash.

POH MUMBAI

And the Herbed Tofu with some pineapple mash.

POH MUMBAI

All of the above were appetizers! Now moving to the main course. But before mains, I had this chilli sorbet – icy pop with a mild sweet and hot flavor.

POH MUMBAI

For mains, I tried their Kerala Fried Rice with the artichoke red curry. The fried rice itself had an amazing garlic dominated flavor and also had edamame beans which I absolutely love.

POH MUMBAI

POH MUMBAI

For dessert I tried POH’s sweet mess – which was literally a ball of yoghurt, thrown with force to look like the sweet mess that it does. And this was essentially yoghurt varieties and all of them had a different feel because of the accompanying ingredients of this sweet mess.

POH MUMBAI

I also tried their Caramel and Chocolate piece which was so delicious. And this comes with some honey wasabi ice cream on the side.

POH MUMBAI

I had an amazing time at POH Mumbai and I highly recommend trying it out.

Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for my next post. XOXO!

Shakahari Marriott Pune

Shakahari Marriott Thali
Royal Indian Experience at Shakahari Marriott Pune

I was so excited to visit Shakahari Marriott Pune – a restaurant in JW, that serves specialty Indian Cuisine. They cater to food from different states of India, and have dedicated specials for each of these as well.

Shakahari Marriott Mithai

When I visited Shakahari, they had a North Indian and Rajasthani menu. I quite enjoy both the cuisines so I had a great time. You should check out this video, that shows you everything from my visit here.

Subscribe to my Youtube channel here

If you saw the video, you know the ‘Royal Indian Experience’ at Shakahari isn’t an understatement.

JW Marriott Pune is a very well done property. It’s boasts of a different vibe to each of it’s restaurant. And the fact that the property does have a lot of space is an added advantage. I took the steps to head up to the restaurant and I could see their staff, dressed up in Indian attire, ready to welcome us.

Shakahari Marriott Royal

The minute you walk into Shakahari, that same sense of space kind of comes back to you. Sometimes you walk in to a restaurant and all you see around is hustle and bustle. Dishes all around, meals being served, large families – this is a typical scene that I have encountered many-a-time. However, the way this place is designed, conceals that very well. Larger dining area, a wider kitchen, which is still partially visible to guests give this place a more elegant feel.

1496934217177

In the thali I had, there was a mix of Rajasthani and North Indian dishes. Starters included Dahi Wada, Rajma Salad, Palak Patta Chaat, Besan Chilla to name a few. I absolutely loved the Dahi Wada. Main course included Puris, Gatta Kadhi, Dal Baati Churma and many more items.

Shakahari Marriott Laddoo

And the dessert was a whole mishthan bhandar – a sweet shop! There was so much variety in the kind of barfis available to motichur laddoo, to Kulfi and lots more.

Shakahari Marriott Kulfi

And we finished the meal with some Paan.

Shakahari Marriott Paan

I would definitely recommend you to try out Shakahari and experience this Royal Indian Meal.

Persian Food Festival at Namak Sahara Star

Namak Sahara Star
A first for me – trying out Persian Food at Namak Sahara Star!

So I was invited to try out some Persian Fare at Namak Sahara Star and my first response was like am I even going to find anything vegetarian there. I did manage to gather some courage to try this out; I am normally not that enthusiastic about trying out an entirely new cuisine, without some mandatory recommendations. So let’s quickly take a peek into what I had on my visit to the Persian Food Festival at Namak Sahara Star.

Welcome drink

Namak Sahara Star
This was sweet Saffron water and it was served cold but not chilled.

Tomato, Carrot and Barley Soup

Namak Sahara Star
This had a very different flavor as compared to a regular tomato soup that I enjoy. It felt really wholesome because of the barley and carrot and tomato together do have a prominent flavor. Absolutely loved the potato wedge dunked inside the soup.

Falafel Abadan

Namak Sahara Star
A mega crunchy falafel and this was made from Chickpea, potato, capsicum and cumin.

Zaffrani Paneer Kebab

Namak Sahara Star
One of the softest paneer chunks I have had. This was amazing. It had a rich flavor from saffron, pista and olive oil.

Mavoha Tanur

Namak Sahara Star
These were basically grilled apple, pineapple and pear with like a hint of spices and sumac powder. I loved the grilled pineapple in this.

All the kebabs and appetizers were served with these delicious dips that I just couldn’t put down.

Namak Sahara Star

Dal Ada

Namak Sahara Star
The Persian Black Dal – it was not sweet and creamy but instead had a mild hot after taste. This is made along with potato, olive oil and garlic.
Paneer Fasenjan

Namak Sahara Star
A gravy with really soft cottage cheese cubes. The gravy was made from pomegranate, powdered walnuts and mild spices.

Kashuk-E-Badmejan

Namak Sahara Star
This was eggplant in a gravy made from milk powder, onion, walnut and saffron. So it had a pretty distinct taste.

I enjoyed my mains with some Naan-E-Kirmari and Naan-E-Barbari. Naan-E-Kirmari I loved in particular as it had an amazing flavor of some herbs and some sesame seeds.

Namak Sahara Star

Halwa-E-Sheer

Namak Sahara Star

This was my dessert. It felt like a rich Sindhi homemade sweetdish. It was served piping hot and was made from milk and dry fruit, including pistachios.

I was pretty surprised by the amount of vegetarian dishes that this Persian Food Festival had. And to be quite honest, I didn’t regret coming for this at all. In fact, I did end up liking a lot of things – like the soup, the dal, the falafel and the dessert. What I loved is that the food really has a prominent flavor from the main ingredients and doesn’t really have too much of masalas which make it really good for me.

I hope you enjoyed reading this. Do check out the Persian Food Festival in case you are interested.

Here is where you can find all the details.

It Happened In New York – Bandra

It Happened In New York
It Happened In New York Bandra, is a beautiful restaurant situated at Chapel Road. It opened in December 2016 and I was invited to sample the food there.

Here’s a video from my visit to It Happened In New York. I hope you enjoy it!

It Happened In New York is a one of a kind experience in Mumbai. You rarely come across a place to eat which is as huge as this one.

It Happened In New York

The interiors of It Happened In New York are very interesting. So the entry level houses a huge community table. I absolutely love the concept as it can be used by larger groups as a whole or even individuals looking to catch a meal alone. The next level is a beautiful seating area in which you will find super stylish chairs and sofa tables along with huge windows that offer a city view.

It Happened In New York

It Happened In New York offers signature American Food. I tried quite a few items here, including their version of the Peanut-Butter-Jelly sandwich, Bagels, Spaghetti, Nachos and of course American Style Cheese Cake! And of course all of it was extremely savoury. And expect their bar man to stir up a great drink too. I tried something called the Santana Sour and absolutely enjoyed it.

Romano’s JW Mariott Mumbai

Romano's JW Mariott
Special occasions call for an even more special celebration. So I decided to head to Romano’s JW Mariott to celebrate a really special day.

Romano's JW Mariott

We came to deciding Romano’s JW Mariott because we wanted to eat some good Italian food. And going by the looks of this place and whatever reviews I read, this seemed to be worth a try.

Romano's JW Mariott

The entrance does give you a major Italian feel and because I visited them during the holiday season, the place was beautifully decorated. We had a reservation and the staff assisted us to our table.

Romano's JW Mariott

The place is beautiful – open kitchen which is common to a lot of true Italian places. And the seating and ambience does spell a nice cozy dinner.

Romano's JW Mariott

My first order was Minestrone Di Verdure. This had a ton of pesto in it, something which I’m gradually beginning to like. Minestrone soup does not always have pesto, but I quite enjoyed it in this.

Romano's JW Mariott

With soup you get a portion of their fresh bread which was definitely something. It was a nice whole grain loaf which I quite enjoyed with some olive oil.

Romano's JW Mariott

Next I wanted to try their Margherita Pizza – which for me is the truest test of good Italian Pizza. And it was definitely something! The pizza base was perfect – i mean slightly crunchy on the sides and a little softer towards the center. And the cheese was top notch. And so was the pomodoro sauce – just perfectly tangy. And topped with basil leaves which lend a subtle, yet noticeable flavor.

Romano's JW Mariott

Then I moved straight to dessert and I was recommended the Vulcano Di Cioccolato which was a soft centered chocolate cake with some vanilla ice cream on the side. It was served warm, and if you have been following me you know that warm chocolate is my weakness. This was definitely one of the best one’s I’ve had.

Romano's JW Mariott

Romano's JW Mariott

I definitely enjoyed this place. I think the food was extremely delicious and my overall experience was also really good. Their staff is really kind and definitely ensures that you have a great time.
