I recently visited Peninsula Grand and I couldn’t help but compare it to all of the other Peninsulas’ I’ve visited, all across Mumbai. For those of you who are not aware, Grand Peninsula is a restaurant located in a 4 star hotel of the same name. And the same group also has restaurants of various price ranges in Sion, Mumbai as well. But this particular one, compared to all of the others did appear a lot more fancy.
In order to know if the Peninsula Grand has all the keys that it needs to be really GRAND, watch this video!
The Peninsula Grand is a beautifully done place. Pastel shades, a lot of white and huge windows make it seem very open. And they offer a huge variety of food – North Indian, Chinese and so much more. They also have a full bar available. It is a place that you can visit with your entire family and have a great time.
I hope you liked this video. If you did then please Subscribe to my YouTube channel and stay tuned for more fun videos.
I recently visited Peninsula, Sion on a rainy weekday for lunch. My experience at Central Peninsula, which is also in Sion has been pretty good – their food is honestly pretty tasty. So I was expecting the same from this too. And yes, my expectations were fulfilled. Keep reading to know what I loved!

Tomato soup
Cottage cheese barbecue
Kurkuri kebab
Paneer makhani
Mexican rice
Blue lagoon – mocktail
Tomato Soup
Started with this. Tomato soup with some bread crumbs and that mandatory dollop of cream! Pretty tasty – like cream of tomato soup should be. Right texture, pure tomato taste. Not greasy. This is served with some bread on the side. Don’t miss the jeera breadsticks!
Cottage cheese barbecue
If you love Indian Chinese, you will love this. Spicy and sweet barbecue sauce with paneer and bits of garlic and capsicum. So tasty. Paneer chunks were soft and fresh too.
Kurkura kebab
Kebab with sev! Excellent filling. Served with a sweet and sour chutney.
Paneer makhani
Thick gravy with paneer chunks. Not overly sweet. Here too paneer was fresh. This is the chatpata gravy and not the thinner creamy makhani gravy. Pretty ok
Roti / Naan
I tried their garlic naan and didn’t enjoy it very much. It was overly crispy for my liking.
Rotis were nice.
Mexican rice
This was rice flavored with cilantro and what felt like pesto along with cheese and veggies. Veggies included all peppers, broccoli, capsicum, corn etc. Flavor of rice and cheese together was nice. And the veggies too were quite flavorful and not overly cooked.
Blue lagoon
Tried this mocktail here – blue syrup and some fizz. Pretty refreshing. If you like fizzy drinks you will love it.
Cinderella
Another cocktail – this was a bit meh! Too much going on – peach and orange and some more fruit flavors. I didn’t quite care for this.
Asia Kitchen by Mainland China is one place where I loved everything that I ate. Each and every item was delicious! Quick review of each of these items is below.
Soy peanuts
Will appear on your table as a welcome gesture. I bet you, you won’t be able to stop popping these.
Vegetarian sweet corn soup
Thick and creamy and doesn’t feel like an excess of corn flour. It’s got a little bit of veggies in it. Absolutely loved this.
Crispy lotus stem with black pepper and curry leaves
Never thought I would love lotus stem. The flavor of the Lotus stem and curry leaves together had me totally gorging on this.
Dumplings
Tried one with spinach and the other with veggies – Cabbage , carrots etc. The outer covering is soft and melt in your mouth. Veggies inside are so flavorful. Spinach doesn’t feel bitter.
Raw Papaya Salad
This is such a nice sweet and sour flavor – feels really light and refreshing. Finely chopped raw papaya, some tomatoes and a little bit of capsicum – very tasty.
Crispy crackling spinach
Loved the way this was served – looked so bomb sitting pretty in a martini glass. Slightly different than the other places I’ve had crackling spinach – this was even tinier bits and not whole leaves. Add had a slightly different, but good flavor. And was definitely the least oily one I’ve had.
Teriyaki chilli potato
A slightly different version of the regular honey chilli potato – Teriyaki gave a nice sweetish flavor and I love any tossed / fried potato. So I obviously totally loved this.
Stir fry beans
Main course started with some stir fry beans – green beans with some spring onions, chilli and sesame seeds. I usually am not the biggest fan of stir fry veggies but this was so yum!
Assorted veggies in black bean sauce
Black bean sauce done perfect – no weird taste that sometimes black bean sauce can have. Veggies included zucchini, carrots, broccoli, corn, onions. I don’t like black bean sauce either but this one was quite nice.
Golden corn, potatoes and water chestnut
This is STELLAR. A nice hot sauce felt like hunan mixed with something milder and corn, potatoes and water chestnut. It is going into my most favorite gravy list. You have to try this.
Lemongrass Fried Rice
Heavy flavor – I personally liked it. If you are ok with a heavy flavor going on in your fried rice then you will love it.
Thai exotica
Guava juice and basil – fresh and refreshing.
Malay spice melon
Highly highly recommend this one. Watermelon juice, some ginger and lime. Ginger and watermelon is such a great combo.
Lychee and vanilla ice cream
Literally came in glass bowl with a whole lot of vapor! Deseeded Lychee – win! Them and vanilla ice cream together – double win!
Honey noodles with orange and basil
If just honey noodles weren’t good enough! Zesty orange flavor on honey noodles make them even better. So sooooo delish. Another one in my list of favorite desserts.

Recently tried out China Express on a crazy rainy noon! It has a window like area where one can stand and eat and view everything outside! And it also has a couple of tables and chairs outside.
I tried their wok – mixed way too many sauces. Basically the person who was making my wok gave me a mix of hunan, Schezwan initially and then asked me to taste some. I found it slightly dry so he added some butter garlic sauce to it. And then it was alright.
Before this, he handed me a bowl to choose the veggies I would like added – and there was all kinds of peppers, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, corn, cabbages etc. And you can choose any number of veggies you like.
The wok tasted great – wasn’t over spicy or oily. I like that they explicitly mention that they don’t use aginomoto and cook in olive oil.
I also tried their spring rolls – they took a while to come because they were made on the spot. The outer covering was a tad bit thick but the veggies inside were delicious.
Recommend this place if you’re around for a quick bite.

I remember going to mainland China in oberoi a while back and not enjoying the meal at all. From that to this – these guys have really upped their game. I will definitely come back! You should go too.

I recently ordered from Belstone via Zomato delivery. I was craving Veg Triple and saw the email guys delivering so I decided to give it a go.
This is probably the most colored veg triple i have seen – the rice was all kinds of orange..ranging from dull to bright. It didn’t even taste that good! The gravy was pathetic – crazy crazy spicy (i mentioned less spicy) and so much color in that too. The fried noodles that were barely there were soggy and how!
Don’t recommend this place at all.

I was recently invited to check out this place. To be honest GoPanda has been on my wishlist for a while and also recommended to me by so many fellow foodies. I was so happy with everything I ate here and cannot wait to be back for another meal!
Recommend: Paneer Sloppy Joe Asian Noodles Croquet
I started with the Paneer Sloppy Joe. When I read the description of the sloppy Joe, it mentioned that it was a sandwich and I was like – a Chinese sandwich?!! But when I took the first bite I shut up for good! Yummy paneer with probably the best kind of Chinese seasoning and loads of cheese in a sandwich. And it’s served with some fries on the side. Truly one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten.
Then I tried the Burmese Khao Suey. Really tasty – the noodles were just the right amount of crunchy and great coconut flavor.
After that I tried something called the Singaporean Baida Roti with some paneer stuffing in it. Exceptional is an understatement. This paneer stuffing was slightly different than the sloppy Joe one but yet so tasty. It is served with a Malaysian sauce / dip on the side.
And then I tried the Asian noodles croquet – similar stuffing like a spring roll but with some cheese. And the outer part is nice and crispy. It is served with some sweet chilli sauce. Absolutely loved this.
So tasty and affordable Chinese food has an all new meaning and definitely a destination for me.
I used to love Flora once upon a time. But this feeling has been quite hampered off late. Recently ordered some paneer chilly from here. It arrived quite soon. It was accompanied by some kimchi.
The kimchi was good..perfect taste. The paneer chilly however was pathetic – seemed stale paneer as it was way too hard and chewy.
I’ve decided to stick to other options for Chinese home delivery.

This is one of my favorite places for SST – Sasta Sundar Tikau food. If that’s the kind of food you love too, then keep reading!
This place has been my favorite for at least 10 years now – 10 years is a looooong time. Small place, great food, so much value for money. If you haven’t already been to this place then you must go.
I have eaten the schezwan rice and noodles, hakka noodles, veg crispy, dry manchurian – and everything has been great..even over the years. But my favorite here remains the paneer schezwan rice. And you always gotta ask for extra schezwan sauce here – it’s simply amazing. The schezwan sauce is slightly sweet and has a different taste to it.
You get great quantity. Best part – you get half portions too! And the sheer variety is amazing. Highly recommended 🙂
Carter road has that one lane which is so buzzing – all you can see is food. Right from Shawarmas to Dosa to Chinese. And so I tried out this one hyped place called Emprino. To know about my experience, keep reading.
Finally visited this place which has been recommended to me by quite a few foodies. Emprino is on ‘the’ food street at Carter road. I came here for a late dinner and was quite happy with my meal.
Recommend:
Vegetarian Fried Wonton
Vegetarian Dimsums
Hakka sauce and wheat flat noodles
I wanted to order their wok and so I was asked to taste the sauces before I can select one for my wok – loved this whole try before you buy thing. I went for the hakka sauce – it was slightly fiery. That combined with flat wheat noodles and so many veggies like zucchini, peppers, broccoli. I quite liked it.
I also tried their fried wonton. Phenomenal is an understatement! Although they were slightly over crispy, I loved them. Amazing veggie filling inside.
And I tried the dimsums – the basic simple vegetarian ones. These too were exceptional. The outer covering was soft and not chewy at all unlike a whole lot of places. The inner filling didn’t feel kachha too.
Also tried paneer pieces in a slightly sweet kinda sauce. And there were some carrot noodles along with the Paneer – carrot looking like noodles! I didn’t care much for this to be honest.
I found this place to be extremely value for money. Definitely coming back for more appetizers!
