Star Anise Review
Rating – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and half
Star Anise has been on my wishlist for a while. When I visited this place the other day, I was simply spellbound! The sheer variety that I saw on display – pastries with all kinds of chocolate, berries, Caramel, cream; Cupcakes, jams, tarts, puffs, rolls..I have lost count. And while I’m trying to recollect, I am drooling! And when you go here just please check out the pastries and the layers of different things that have been used in them. Just so tempting!

Goan vegetarian puff
Flourless chocolate cake
Chocolate bomb (sous l’equateur)
Let’s jump to what I tried – I started with the vegetarian quiche. Nice and warm..it had a whole lot of veggies including broccoli, sun dried tomatoes, carrots and also some cheese. Really enjoyed this.
Next I tried the goan vegetable puff. Excellent..tasty filling. And they actually use butter which adds a lot more flavor, as opposed to margarine which a lot of other places do.
Then came the sweet stuff! I started with the walnut tart. Soooooooooo many walnuts! And the outer part was just excellent – perfectly firm and soft. This didn’t feel chewy or anything.
Then I tried the flourless chocolate cake. I was sold at flourless…but there were other things that totally made this exceptional. Warm melting chocolate…loads of cocoa powder and some raspberries inside that cake. All of this just made for such a great melt in the mouth feel. For anyone who loves that hint of raspberry with chocolate this is THE thing to try!
Next I tried the bomb which is actually known as Sous L’equateur. And this truly is the bomb.com.!! A big round ball of all kinds of yummy things – chocolate, mousse, strawberries with a balsamic flavoring and what not. And some hot liquid chocolate ganache being poured on top of it. OMG – absolutely loved it!
Then I tried the cupcake – I think it was the Caramel one. It had a Caramel filling. Personally didn’t care for this too much because I found it a bit dry.
I’m going to be trying some jams, cookies and biscuits very soon and will be writing about that too. But in the meantime if you can then do check out this place. Chef Anees has truly taken dessert to the next level.
My meal was complementary but that doesn’t affect my views.
