Bombay Biryani – A vegetarian’s guide!

Bombay Biryani
Bombay Biryani is located in Hill Road, Bandra. If you know Jimme’s Kitchen then it’s right next to it. It’s a pretty new restaurant serving kebabs, biryani and various other items. Being a vegetarian I was slightly apprehensive to visit this place but it was a pretty good experience.

So here is my guide – a vegetarians’ guide on what you should be eating at Bombay Biryani!

Hara Bhara Kebabs

Bombay Biryani

These are fried to perfection – the right kind of crispy and crunchy; not even slightly overdone in any way. I did feel that they went chewy after a while, but that could be because of the longish photo session we had with them! These are served with a coriander chutney on the side which is super tasty. And it also comes with some salad. These Hara Bhara Kebabs topped with some cheese is just what you need to start off an awesome meal at Bombay Biryani!

Bombay Biryani

Cheese Schezwan Naan

unadjustednonraw_thumb_1fdd

This dish here is absolutely recommended. Naan filled with cheese and schezwan sauce. It doesn’t get more Indo-Chinese than this! It does taste pretty delicious. The warm naan, melting cheese and spicy schezwan. Combination alert!!

Paneer Biryani

unadjustednonraw_thumb_1fe2

Almost feels like paneer tikka and fragrant rice. The Biryani doesn’t feel dry at all. In fact the masala is spread out fairly well. The paneer chunks are soft. Overall quite nice!

Subz Dum Biryani

Bombay Biryani

Loads of vegetables – carrots, french beans and more in a spicy masala. It does have a super strong garlic after taste but honestly, I quite enjoyed it.

Both the biryanis were serves with raita that had some jeera powder and some garlic. First time for me trying out raita with garlic – but pretty good.

Mumbaiya Santra

Bombay Biryani

This tangy orange drink had a taste of pure santra meets jaljeera. If you enjoye these kind of flavors ask for this one.

Salted Caramel Phirni

Bombay Biryani

I’m honestly not the biggest fan of Phirni but this one seemed pretty nice and creamy. And the Salted Caramel was definitely that nice alternate flavor that enhance a sweet dish. Do try this.

Overall their food is slightly spicy, at least for me. So you can either enjoy it as is, or ask for slightly lower spiced dishes. All in all, I quite enjoyed my food from Bombay Biryani.

Bombay Biryani can be a good home delivery option. Hit them up to check if they deliver in your area.

Interesting Indian Fare at Veranda Bandra

Veranda Bandra

I’m not really the kind of person that loves eating Indian food while eating out. So when I was headed to Veranda Bandra, I didn’t really know what was about to come! So here I am sharing my experience with you.

My visit to Veranda Bandra is captured in this video. I hope you enjoy it!

Subscribe to my YouTube here

Here’s a description of everything you saw me eat at Veranda Bandra.

Leonardo Dra-vidli with Aam Panna

Veranda Bandra

Alternating flavors to help cleanse your palate. That gunpowder is the good stuff!

Kin Sue

Veranda Bandra

It’s pumpkin soup and it didn’t make me throw up. So yeah!

Watermelon Mojito

Veranda Bandra

Nothing like minty fresh watermelon with some liquor.

Contem-Beetroot Salad

Veranda Bandra

It’s a total burst of flavors in your mouth. The salad is oh so fresh. And the beetroot with hung curd is probably the best that beetroot has ever tasted for me.

Raja Dahi Varma

Veranda Bandra

This is a dahi bhalla – but deconstructed! Great taste.

Palak Bhindi Chaat

Veranda Bandra

Spinach, fried bhindi, chutneys and hung curd – it’s got everything going on.

Cottage Cheese Trilogy

Veranda Bandra

3 Different flavors of paneer – mild, spicy and healthy i.e. with spinach!

Vegetarian Kebabs

Veranda Bandra

A beetroot kebab with tomato chutney on top, a mushroom one and the best one – a spinach kebab with sweet mango pickle. That pickle is parcel worthy!

Banksy Bharta

Veranda Bandra

Perfect baingan bharta, tomato and onion kulcha and dal makhni that’s not too heavy.

Gulkand Chocobar

Veranda Bandra

Only thing better than saunf is saunf rolled in chocolate! That’s what I felt about this.

White Chocolate Souffle

Veranda Bandra

Melting goodness. Never knew white chocolate souffle could feel so good.

That’s all from my visit to Veranda Bandra. I hope you enjoyed reading and watching. Please stay tuned for more. And in the mean time don’t forget to stay in touch with me on my social media. All links are below.

Goila Butter Chicken Review

Goila Butter Chicken

When I first heard about Goila Butter Chicken, I was like would they have anything at all for me? I’m a vegetarian and honestly a bit apprehensive of trying out places that have a meal option in their name itself! But, I conquered all my fears and tried out Goila Butter Chicken.

If you are in and around Andheri West, then Goila Butter Chicken is a great delivery option for you. It not only serves great non vegetarian stuff, but their vegetarian dished too are pretty awesome. I’ve listed below my favorites from Goila Butter Chicken. Do try them out.

Goila Butter Masala

Goila Butter Chicken

This is the Goila Butter Chicken version of Paneer Butter Masala. The gravy is brilliant – not too creamy, not too thin. And it has a hint of that charcoal, smoky flavor going on, which to be honest I quite love. Paneer chunks are soft and generously spread.

Goila Butter Chicken

Wheat Roomali

Goila Butter Chicken

If like me you are bored of regular roti or naans, go for this wheat roomali. It goes excellently well with the Goila Butter Masala.

Aloo and Bhindi Kadhi

Goila Butter Chicken

If it’s a welll cooked, subtle flavored kadhi, I will love it. And this one is no exception. Amazing homestyle besan and dahi kadhi with potato pieces and bhindi in it. Being a Sindhi, I quite love these kind of veggies in my kadhi. This is extremely homestyle – so if you want something mild, yet soothing have this with some jeera rice from Goila Butter Chicken.

Beetroot Tikki Chaat

Goila Butter Chicken

Goila Butter Chicken

Goila Butter Chicken

Beetroot tikkis and ragda with dahi and chutneys – both coriander and imli. And topped with some potato salli. Can’t go wrong with this. Order this for a fun addition to your meal. It is indeed delicious.

And lastly you can finish off with some Mango Rasgullas, like I did!

Review – Oye Kake

Rating – ⭐⭐⭐
I tried the aloo paratha here recently by ordering online via Zomato.
Oye Kake
Honestly, their paratha didn’t blow my mind at all. Personally I like my paratha well stuffed and I found this pretty low on that aspect.
Oye Kake
Oye Kake
The dal that comes with it is alright. Probably a tad bit oily for my liking. But taste was alright.
Oye Kake
It also has some dahi.
Oye Kake
I like their quantity and everything, just if they would have some more stuffing!

Burgundy Box, Goregaon East

Burgundy Box

Review – Burgundy Box

Burgundy Box

Rating – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was recently sent a DIY meal box and I was like okay – that’s a bit of mehnat! But this box is worth every ounce of effort. Homestyle – check! Tasty – check! What more could I want!
thumb_IMG_7400_1024
I tried the vilayati kadhai subz box – all kinds of exotic veggies in a yummy kadhai gravy. Cherry tomatoes, all shades of peppers, broccoli, zucchini, carrots, corn. The gravy was tomato based and so tasty…the kadhai masala was the real bomb. The minute I added it I wanted to just eat!

Burgundy Box
They serve this with parathas which you need to just heat for a couple of minutes, with or without ghee and your all set! Excellent parathas too.
Burgundy Box
And one box was enough for 2 of us – for a full meal.
Burgundy Box
I was also sent their chocolate chip cookies. These are also like a ready to bake DIY. These were yummy too – right amount of butter, amazing taste of the cookie, slightly too crisp but that wasn’t a showstopper at all. And good amount of chocolate chips!
Burgundy Box
Burgundy Box
I recommend their meal kits. They are tasty and pretty healthy too. Yes they are a bit of extra effort, but their taste more than makes up for it. And they give you the perfect instructions to get going with this meal kit. So actually it’s super simple.

Indizza – The Delivery Kitchen, Lower Parel

Indizza – The Delivery Kitchen – Review

Rating – ⭐⭐⭐ and half
Indizza - The Delivery Kitchen
The Meal Box
I recently tried Indizza for a quick lunch via home delivery from Zomato. I tried their lunch meal – it came with steamed rice, dal makhni, paneer makhani, a roti and some Papad.
Indizza - The Delivery Kitchen
The Meal Box
Their paneer makhani was actually really good – consistency was great, paneer was soft. Only thing it was overly sweet. Almost sharbat!
Indizza - The Delivery Kitchen
Paneer Makhani
The dal makhni had too much masala. I personally am not too fond of dishes with too much masala..especially garam masala kind of taste. So I didn’t care too much for this.

Farzi Cafe, Lower Parel

Farzi Cafe

Farzi Cafe Review

Farzi Cafe
Farzi Cafe

I got Farzified! Read about my exprience :0

Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and half!

The word Farzi is so aptly used to name this cafe – a complete illusion for one’s senses where various textures, flavors and aromas mingle together and create something extraordinary! This is a place where you will get exceptional food that is twisted and made unique in its own way. I was invited to sample the food here and boy, it was a feast – both, visually and for my taste buds!

Experimenting with starters and drinks is the way to go here.
The first thing I was offered was Amuse Bouche – a palate cleanser. It’s believed that food when started on an undiluted palette tastes the best! This was mishti dahi essentially, with such a great flavor. It comes in these little katoris and your supposed to have it in one go.

I started with a version of Raj Kachori. This had dahi obviously, some imli chutney, green chutney and kurkuri bhindi with pomegranate on the side. One bite of this and I was like – Waaaaooowww! The imli chutney had a frothy texture and appearance, the Raj kachori was nice and crispy and then there was dahi flavored with spices which tasted exceptional. The kurkuri bhindi made for a good crunchy side with this dish.

Then I tried something that was essentially dal Chawal in the form of round crispy balls. Now dal Chawal is almost soggy food but the kurkuri outer covering and papad made this super interesting. And it had a salsa kind of flavor going on which added such a good zing!

Then I tried the Vada – the chutneys served with this were the real bomb! And the tempered chilli! And this was actually pav inside the Vada!

Then came a cane topped dish with something different inside – this was mini naan with the margherita pizza sauce and cheese. You must eat this immediately when it comes else it can become super chewy. But this combination was awesome!

Then there was samosa with the traditional filling but tempered with some white sesame and honey chilli sauce. OMG – I don’t like any fooling around with a regular samosa but this tasted pretty nice!

Then tried the tandoori paneer with a very thai green sauce kinda feel to it. I’m not too fond of thai so I didn’t care much for this. This was served with some mustard dip.

Then came some appam and a very heavy coconut stew with it – i didn’t enjoy this because I’m not a big fan of coconut flavored food.

After all these starters it was time to move to main course. But wait..first let me tell you about another palette cleanser! A huge tree like thing was placed on my table with 2 lollipops hanging out from its branches. These felt like kadhi (Punjabi besan kadhi – I’m not kidding) frozen and made into a lollipop. All fancy and did give me a fresh clean start to my main course.

For the main course I started with some spaghetti – aglio e olio style and this also came with some coconut thing going on. The spaghetti was so well done and I’m afraid that this was the first time I mildly enjoyed the coconut flavoring.

Then came some pav bhaji – not just regular pav but with focacia bread and it was called Ratatouille Pav bhaji! This bread was out of this world – I ate so much of it just by itself because it was so yummy. The bhaji I found a tad bit greasy. It is topped with sev and onion. The combination of sweet focacia and bhaji is definitely something different!

Then came some churma balls and some yellow dal. The churma balls feel quite heavy..But the dal that comes with them is superb. It also has some of that crispy chana dal with masala on top and I just loved it.

And finally came some mix veggies kofta in a rich creamy cashew and tomato gravy along with some ajvaini naan – the naan was exceptional. The kofta was quite tasty – anyone who loves rice cashew flavored gravy would love this.

Don’t judge me, but there’s still some dessert that I had! Started with a Parle G cheesecake – jee Haan Parle G along with some gems! And this was placed in a bowl with loads of chopped pista and a rabdi kind of thing. Very meh – not my type at all.

Then I tried a strange but rich Ras Malai – one mouthful and you would have a mixture of ras malai and rabdi.. The presentation was remarkable – especially the Caramel colored sugar top!

And finally I ate some planets from the solar system! This dessert was called the signature milky way big bang – it was almost created right in front of me! Liquid nitrogen churned ice cream and fruits and chocolate! Fruits included some blue berries, plums. The chocolate fudge pieces were exceptional.

Farzi cafe is a must visit..at least once. And it’s going to be an experience and not just another meal outside. The ambience feels nothing less than a posh place. And the staff are super friendly and considerate. Special mention for Shahbaz – our attendant, who patiently waited everytime I clicked a picture.
