Best Food Finds in Mumbai – January Favorites

Food Finds in Mumbai
The first month of the year literally just flew; but it did help me discover some good food. So here are my January Favorites – my absolute best food finds in Mumbai, in this month.

Best Food Finds in Mumbai

1) 1Above

1Above is a beautiful rooftop, serving food, drinks and sheesha. It is located at Kamala Mills and is an all vegetarian place. It is a really fancy looking rooftop with the perfect lighting and mood. And they have a huge bar as well. I tried their finger food – bruschetta, nachos and vegetarian keema pav and all were really good.

I have a full review and video of the place which you can check out here.

2) Dinshaw’s

Dinshaw’s Express Cafe is a cozy place in Oshiwara that serves a lot of delicious food. They have Parsi food, Kebabs, Biryani, Pasta and a lot of dessert options. This time I tried some Pasta and some Freakshakes there. I absolutely recommend trying out their Patatas Bravas and the Salted Caramel Shake.

3) Ticca Tikka

Ticca Tikka is a breath of fresh air. Good Indian food is something that the place serves. Their Malai Paneer Tikka, Paneer Tikka Bunny Chow and Makki Di Roti Sarson Da Saag are absolutely delicious.

I have a full video review of this place that you can check out here.

4) Masala Library

I’m probably super late to the party with this, but the Masala Library experience is something that you absolutely must try. I highly recommend going in for their set menu so that you get to experience a wide variety of great food and presentation that they offer.

5) Oh! Fudge

For me fudge is synonymous with Coopers in Lonavla. But Oh!Fudge is definitely offering some really interesting fudge flavors right here at Carter Road. And you can have it in the form of shakes, sundaes or even just plain fudge. My recommended flavors are coffee, chocolate and mint, dark chocolate and hazelnut.

Pritam Da Dhaba – Review and What to Eat

Pritam Da Dhaba

I’m not a big supporter of eating proper Indian food while I’m eating out. So when I was headed for a family dinner to Pritam Da Dhaba, there wasn’t much I was looking forward to. However, the food ended up being extremely tasty and I also had one of the best Hara Bhara Kebabs of my whole life! So here’s my experience at Pritam Da Dhaba.

Watch my video of Pritam Da Dhaba.

That was Pritam Da Dhaba! I absolutely could not resist grabbing all of that roomali roti action and I’m so glad I did.

Here’s my full review and suggestions on what to eat when you are at Pritam Da Dhaba.

Hara Bhara Kebabs

Pritam Da Dhaba

These are just perfect. The stuffing is really good, they have the right amount of crunch. You can’t not have these at Pritam Da Dhaba!

Paneer Musallam

Pritam Da Dhaba

Their version of paneer butter masala. It isn’t too creamy or too watery. The gravy has that nice tangy tomato taste with the right amount of Indian masalas. And this is the one I personally recommend over Moti Mahal’s paneer butter masala.

Chura Paratha

Pritam Da Dhaba

Crumpled paratha with loads of ghee. Try this for sure.

Dal Makhani

Pritam Da Dhaba

Not too heavy – you don’t feel like a slouch after eating this.

Those were my recommendation at Pritam Da Dhaba. It’s one of those Old is Gold kinda places. I think the food is really tasty. The ambience is also a no-nonsense kinds. They do have some sitting place outside as well which has that dhaba kind of feel – the khaats and the lit up trees. All in all, a great place for tasty Indian food.

Have you been to Pritam? Let me know about your experience in the comments below. And I would also like to know your favorite restaurant for Indian food.

Peninsula Grand Sakinaka Andheri

Peninsula Grand

What makes a restaurant grand? Is it just great food? Not in my opinion. So let’s find out if Peninsula Grand is really the grandest of them all!

Here’s all the items you absolutely should be ordering at the Peninsula Grand, Sakinaka

Cottage Cheese and Crackling Spinach

Peninsula Grand

I can describe this as one of the best ones I’ve had. The right amount of crackle in the spinach and the paneer pieces are really nice and soft. That perfect Indian Chinese flavor is what this dish brings.

Masala Papad

Peninsula Grand

I know my papad well! It’s because I eat it with every meal. So when someone gives me a perfectly crisp papad, with a blanket of tomatoes, onion and chatpata masalas, I do appreciate it.

Tomato Dhaniya Shorba

Peninsula Grand

Great if you have a bad throat, or even otherwise. Slightly on the spicier side though.

Sweet Corn Soup

Peninsula Grand

Thick and has a good amount of vegetable in it. It doesn’t feel like it has absolutely no corn flour, but definitely worth a try.

Vegetarian Kebab Platter

Peninsula Grand

The paneer and the seekh kebabs in this are just heavenly. And honestly the portions are quite a bit.

Sweet and Sour gravy with Paneer

Peninsula Grand

Peninsula Grand does Indian Chinese really well. This gravy was so tasty!

Madhur Milan

Peninsula Grand

Warm boondi, gulab jamun and rabdi. And laden with chopped pistachios. Rich and delicious.

The Peninsula Grand also feels different than the other Peninsula brand restaurants in the city. Their service is really good and it does give a feel of dining in a fancy place. Evenings you will see that they have some live music which would be great with their opulent bar selection. All in all, a good family place.

Bombay Barbeque Review

Bombay Barbeque

Bombay Barbeque Review

Bombay Barbeque
Bombay Barbeque

I have visited Bombay Barbeque about 3 times and have had a uniform experience across all of them – STELLAR! Read on to find out why I love this place so much.

This place is the KING of buffet style food. Variety is an understatement. Taste and flavors are exceptional. Service is like never before. Bombay Barbecue is truly on point in every aspect.

Recommend the buffet and going completely empty stomach for it.
Their buffet costs 700 bucks on a weekday. And it has everything that you can imagine. Right from chaat to their famous tandoori grill, from Italian to asian, from indian main course to pizza and an array of dessert – so much!
Let’s start with chaat. Pani puri, dahi batata puri, sev puri all of these are excellent. Nothing imperfect – pani puri is adequately sweet and spicy, dahi in dahi puri isn’t khatta and sev puri is tasty and how.

Their kebab and grill too has so much variety. On the grill are all kinds of veggies like potato, mushrooms, cauliflower, peppers, broccoli and also paneer. But my favorite is the pineapple. Never had anything like that before! They also give butta cut in small parts which is tasty and easy to eat. The makai kebab is excellent. Perfectly crispy. I am not the biggest fan of sweet potato, but loved it here.

I also tried their pasta – both red and white sauce. Red sauce was good – bell peppers in it and not overly spicy. The white sauce I didn’t care much about – I found it and bit gingery and less creamy in taste.

Their pizza – thin crust and not khakra like. Olives, corn, capsicum, onions and loads of cheese. Pretty good.

Tried their Chinese / Mongolian stuff too – noodles and veggies in hunan sauce and rice in sweet chilli sauce. Basically you can pick your sauce, veggies and rice / noodles and make your own wok kinda thing. This is quite decent.

After eating all of this, I obviously didn’t make it to the main course! But there seemed to be black dal, rice, some biryani, at least 3 different subzis including palak, paneer and mix veg types and some kurkuri bhindi too. And of course roti and naan and raita.
I did eat dessert though. Their live Jalebi counter is where you can get a fresh plate of piping hot jalebis which are sooooo tasty. There’s also gulab jamun, ras malai and basundi. And there are a lot of mini pastries like pineapple, chocolate etc. And ice cream. And probably more which I have missed due to over indulgence!

You also get a drink as part of the buffet – either a beer, or wine or a mocktail or fresh lime soda.

All in all – i love this place. The food is so good. And so is the ambience. Special mention for their staff – the most friendly, helpful and responsive staff I’ve seen and experienced. They truly make the meal a lot more richer. Absolutely recommend this place.
