The Yellow Chilli Dadar – New in Town!

Yellow Chilli Dadar
The Yellow Chilli Dadar is Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s offering to this part of Mumbai. Dadar has a variety of interesting places to eat, and this one located in Star Mall is definitely a place that needs to be on your must visit list

Adapting to the area and the people is what The Yellow Chilli Dadar promises. It was very interesting for me to be a part of the launch gig of The Yellow Chilli Dadar and in this blog post I’m going to take you through my experience.

Yellow Chilli DadarFirstly, let me start by paying my due respect to Chef Sanjeev Kapoor. He literally became the star for anyone with a keen sense of trying out recipes or learning new tips and tricks in the kitchen. I still remember my mom watching Khana Khazana and trying so many of his recipes. And it was the first time, at this event that I got to see this inspiring figure in person. He is a man of many words, ever joyful and extremely humble. And I’m probably one of the lucky ones to watch him in his musical element as well.

Yellow Chilli Dadar

Yellow Chilli Dadar

Coming to The Yellow Chilli Dadar, it’s a place where you will definitely find delicious food to suit local flavors. So things like a Batata Vada Bao (a bao instead of a pav), a Misal Bruschetta (misal on a toast) and even interesting twists like a Grape and Strawberry Sangria are some of the things that you can expect here.

As you can see from the pictures, I’ve had yet another hog fest. Items that I absolutely loved were the Dahi Bhalla, Sarson Ka Saag, Adraki Dhaniya Paneer, Nizami Tarkari Biryani, Gajar ka Halwa and lots more.

Definitely expect a huge round of over-eating when you are at The Yellow Chilli. Their food is quite tasty and I’m sure there will be many dishes that you will find repeat worthy.

All in all I had a great time attending the launch. And it was really sweet of the Team at The Yellow Chilli Dadar to present this special recipe book and this bottle of pickle that I’m going to relish with my meals.

1Above Lower Parel

1Above
Pleasant Mumbai night, good food, amazing cocktails and sheesha – that’s how I describe my time at 1Above. Oh, and what made the night more special was that it was an FBAI Soiree!

1Above is a newly launched placed in Mumbai. It is located at Kamala City in Lower Parel and has a beautiful terrace and indoor seating. The place serves food, drinks and sheesha.

1Above

Here is a little video from my visit to 1Above.

When FBAI organizes a Soiree, you can be rest assured that it’s going to be a great night. They get together so many food enthusiasts and ensure that the night is legit lit! And because this place is so beautifully done, it definitely felt like a special evening.

1Above

1Above was serving some really great cocktails. Their bar is nicely done and the bartenders do go an extra mile in stirring up a great drink.

I also tried a lot of their finger food. Their nachos platter was absolutely delicious. Crisp nacho chips, cheese sauce and salsa that was just perfect. I absolutely enjoyed these.

1Above

They also had a vegetarian keema pav version which was again, really tasty.

And I also tried their Paneer Tikka which was super spicy but definitely appetizing.

1Above also serves sheesha in a variety of flavors.

I quite enjoyed my time at 1Above. If you are looking for a cool rooftop place to hang out around Lower Parel then this can be a great option. Their huge screens definitely make it a pick for watching some great sport, while you enjoy some good food and drinks. They do have a tiny indoor seating section, which seemed to be closed when I visited. All in all, a great place.

Let me know your favorite rooftop place in the city. I would love to visit it too 🙂

Thalassa Mumbai – Romantic and Delicious!

Thalassa Mumbai
Thalassa Mumbai is a fairly new eatery opened up in Khar. The Thalassa from Goa is iconic and it’s indeed a pleasure to welcome the same brand in my own city.

Thalassa Mumbai

I recently visited Thalassa Mumbai and am completely in love with the place. The beautifully done entrance is something I just couldn’t take my eyes off. And because I went in the evening, I could see their romantic dim lights that go really well with their white and blue theme color scheme.

Thalassa Mumbai

Seating wise they have all kinds of arrangements – right from a cozy table for two, to really huge cabanas. Their seating area includes 2 outdoor sections and one a.c section.

Thalassa Mumbai

In terms of food, the Thalassa in Goa is known for it’s sea food specialities and meat varieties. And also probably limited vegetarian options. However, the Thalassa Mumbai has equal amount of options for both vegetarians and sea food lovers. They offer varieties of Greek and Mediterranean food which can be really delicious.

I pretty much loved everything I had here. Check it out!

Special mention for their Tiramisu – which is literally oozing of coffee liqueur and is really nice and creamy. Most certainly you should order this! Even the Tzatziki which is a cucumber and garlic dip is something that can be so simple yet so delicious. And it’s served with warm pita bread which feels really good.

Definitely hit up Thalassa Mumbai to try out some delicious food and also enjoy their vibe. It’s a beautifully calm place. I can imagine the Goa one being really gorgeous because of the location itself. But Thalassa Mumbai is definitely a notch above a lot of pretentious places out there. SugarSpiceNice recommended!

Chill Scenes at Penthouzz Kandivali

Penthouzz
Penthouzz Kandivali makes for an awesome rooftop hangout, especially in this small amount of pleasant Mumbai weather. If you are in the suburbs, and need a place for sheesha, cocktails and some finger food and of course, great music then Penthouzz can totally be your spot.

I recently checked out Penthouzz Kandivali and to be very honest, I ended up having a really good time. I went on a Wednesday while they were hosting a Karaoke night. I did try out their food, drinks and even some sheesha. Here’s a little snippet from my visit. And if you watch this, you will definitely know why Penthouzz Kandivali makes for an awesome chill place!

Subscribe to my YouTube here

See – I told you! Penthouzz totally meets my criteria for a fun night! Coming to what I had here – I did sample a fair bit of their finger food which goes well with sheesha and hours of conversations. And I did try some really awesome mocktails as well.

Take a look at everything I tried at Penthouzz Kandivali!

Also, Penthouzz is open till super duper late and you can definitely take advantage of that on your binge night. I definitely recommend this place.

FBAI Soiree at Cafe Mojo

FBAI Soiree
The FBAI Soiree is an event where foodies from all  over the city get together for a rather chilled out evening. Of course, it is but natural for us to be clicking away to glory; but the sheer number of people you meet at this event makes it so special. This is my first FBAI Soiree and I definitely think that these kind of meet-ups go a long way in shaping the ever-growing food community. So kudos to the entire FBAI team for that.

img_5412

The FBAI Soiree was held at Cafe Mojo – new restaurant located in Mahakali, Andheri (E). Cafe Mojo did turn out to be the perfect venue – because of the sheer number of people, the place needed to be pretty spacious and accommodating. They have an indoor bar area, a small outdoor dinner area and a spacious rooftop kinda area with sheesha as well.

img_5407

I ended up sampling a few of the vegetarian dishes while I was here and these were pretty good. Here’s what I tried:

3C

FBAI Soiree

These were Chilly Cheese Corn balls. Not the melt in your mouth variety but felt pretty wholesome. I ate way too many of these!

Grilled Pineapple

FBAI Soiree

I absolutely love grilled pineapple – the sweet and slightly sour pineapple flavor in a spicy kinda, Indian sauce.

Vegetarian Pizza

FBAI Soiree

These were mini pizza slices with capsicum, bell pepper, onion and loads of cheese, of course. And they had some really strong pepper going on as well. In fact the pepper made this pizza pretty hot!

This place has a really attractive bar. And you absolutely cannot miss their beer tap which is placed on almost every table. The music that was played was pretty good as well. It seems to be a place to unwind with drinks, music and sheesha and a little food, after a long day.

img_5411

I would love to know your favorite place to unwind. Do leave me a comment.

Foodgasm Bandra

Foodgasm Bandra

Everything you need to eat when you visit Foodgasm Bandra! Just remember – everything is super delish! And you are definitely going to be overeaating.

Foodgasm Bandra

Best vegetarian recommendations for Foodgasm Bandra:
Lush green Kebabs

Foodgasm Bandra
These are nothing but Hara bhara Kebabs – a little cheating never hurt right!

Pestofied Cottage cheese

Foodgasm Bandra
Pesto and basil flavored paneer chunks. So soft and totally melt in your mouth! The onion and peppers also taste delicious.

Turkish Punjabi

Foodgasm Bandra
This is apparently as local to Turkey as sandwich is to Mumbai! Filled with spinach and cheese, this stuff is really good.

Quinoa biryani

Foodgasm Bandra
This is all biryani – with boondi raita and everything. Only difference – Quinoa instead of rice. And trust me when I say that Quinoa doesn’t taste better than this!

Baked pumpkin and feta Fusili

Foodgasm Bandra
Ok – now I’m not kidding but this has a slight Maggi kinda taste. And I’m not complaining.

Power Shot

Foodgasm Bandra
Looking for a smoothie with that nice homely feel? Then this is your power shot! Filled with banana, almonds, melon, dates, milk and honey.
Coolant with a kick

Foodgasm Bandra
Well I was served this as a welcome drink and honestly haven’t like kokam sherbet better. This also has chia seeds BTW.

Bugs bunny cake

Foodgasm Bandra
Warm and moist carrot cake, with raspberry tarty stuff on the side and ice cream. Yumm!

Raspberry Rhubarb Split

Foodgasm Bandra
This is Raspberry and Rhubarb compote with a crusty crumble. Very very very sour, but I quite enjoyed it.

The place is really nice. Minimal interiors but food is definitely of substance. I would absolutely recommend you to visit.

Swati Snacks, Nariman Point

Swati Snacks
Nariman Point just got a lot more interesting for me because one of my most favorite places is now there – Swati Snacks. I have visited the Tardeo outlet so many times and honestly any time I need comfort food or just a place where I’m really wanting to grab a good meal, I end up going here.  So I was quite happy when I was invited to check out the Nariman Point Swati Snacks because it’s a new place with that same delicious food.

My visit to Swati Snacks at Nariman Point has been captured in this video. I would love it if you check it out.

I ate a lot of awesome stuff on my visit to Swati. Here are a few pictures from all of the yummy stuff I hogged.

This outlet of Swati Snacks is a lot more bigger than the Tardeo one. However the food and service stays the same – EXCEPTIONAL. If you are looking at going to Swati Snacks in a bigger group then this outlet is ideal. When I spoke to the management they told me that this particular outlet is quite similar to the Ahmedabad one.

If you’re coming here by car then you can park inside the Dalamal Towers compound or the Pay and Park in the area. The fact that Swati Snacks doesn’t have their own valet parking is kind of taken care of by this. They do have a special facility of an automatic chair for the specially abled and this kind of wheelchair accessibility provision is something you rarely ever see in restaurants in Mumbai. I would definitely count this as a major plus.

So that was it from my visit to Swati Snacks Nariman Point. I hope you enjoyed reading and watching.

Pritam Da Dhaba – Review and What to Eat

Pritam Da Dhaba

I’m not a big supporter of eating proper Indian food while I’m eating out. So when I was headed for a family dinner to Pritam Da Dhaba, there wasn’t much I was looking forward to. However, the food ended up being extremely tasty and I also had one of the best Hara Bhara Kebabs of my whole life! So here’s my experience at Pritam Da Dhaba.

That was Pritam Da Dhaba! I absolutely could not resist grabbing all of that roomali roti action and I’m so glad I did.

Here’s my full review and suggestions on what to eat when you are at Pritam Da Dhaba.

Hara Bhara Kebabs

Pritam Da Dhaba

These are just perfect. The stuffing is really good, they have the right amount of crunch. You can’t not have these at Pritam Da Dhaba!

Paneer Musallam

Pritam Da Dhaba

Their version of paneer butter masala. It isn’t too creamy or too watery. The gravy has that nice tangy tomato taste with the right amount of Indian masalas. And this is the one I personally recommend over Moti Mahal’s paneer butter masala.

Chura Paratha

Pritam Da Dhaba

Crumpled paratha with loads of ghee. Try this for sure.

Dal Makhani

Pritam Da Dhaba

Not too heavy – you don’t feel like a slouch after eating this.

Those were my recommendation at Pritam Da Dhaba. It’s one of those Old is Gold kinda places. I think the food is really tasty. The ambience is also a no-nonsense kinds. They do have some sitting place outside as well which has that dhaba kind of feel – the khaats and the lit up trees. All in all, a great place for tasty Indian food.

Have you been to Pritam? Let me know about your experience in the comments below. And I would also like to know your favorite restaurant for Indian food.

Peninsula Grand – Is this really GRAND?

Peninsula Grand

I recently visited Peninsula Grand and I couldn’t help but compare it to all of the other Peninsulas’ I’ve visited, all across Mumbai. For those of you who are not aware, Grand Peninsula is a restaurant located in a 4 star hotel of the same name. And the same group also has restaurants of various price ranges in Sion, Mumbai as well. But this particular one, compared to all of the others did appear a lot more fancy.

In order to know if the Peninsula Grand has all the keys that it needs to be really GRAND, watch this video!

The Peninsula Grand is a beautifully done place. Pastel shades, a lot of white and huge windows make it seem very open. And they offer a huge variety of food – North Indian, Chinese and so much more. They also have a full bar available. It is a place that you can visit with your entire family and have a great time.

The American Joint, BKC

The American Joint

The Capital building in BKC is buzzing with places and I happened to pass this area during lunch hour and boy was it packed! Luckily, I didn’t have to go through the effort of deciding what to eat as I was headed to The American Joint for lunch.

The American Joint

The American Joint is located on the first floor of the swanky Capital building and the minute you get off the escalator it’s right in from of you. Because they knew I was coming in for lunch, I had a reserved table. Otherwise the place was pretty full. They have a semi open kitchen and a fair bit of sitting place. During busy hours finding sitting place can be a bit tricky.

The most important thing about The American Joint however is the fact that the raw material they use to prepare their food is all ORGANIC. It’s personally handpicked, selected and used in a way to keep the nutritive value of the dish fairly high. So your not just eating tasty here, but also relatively healthy. And it is kinda ironic, since American food and healthy don’t always go hand in hand.

I tried quite a few things, but my favorites have to be:

The Tomato and Basil Soup

Homestyle, light tomato soup flavored with some basil. Really soothing.

The America Joint

Hummus to You

Warm toasted pita with Hummus that was perfection. You have to try this.

The American Joint

The American Joint

The Indian Spaghetti

Homestyle, spicy arrabiata – topped with some Indian spices and mayo. Extremely delicious.

The American Joint

San Francisco Garlic Fries

Love heavy garlic flavour? Then you will absolutely love these. And they come with a heavy sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top.

The American Joint

Fererro Nutella Mousse

This by no means feels anything like mousse. It is in face super thick, dense and rich. Layers of nutella and chocolate with a super strong flavour.

The American Joint

These are my top picks at The American Joint. It’s a great place to try out American food that is healthy and tasty and has an Indian twist going on. Do try out this place and let me know your favorites. Leave me a comment or give me a shout out on my Social Media. Links are below. And don’t forget to share this with your friends and family.
